As the black battlecruiser decelerated to a bit under lightspeed, there was pandemonium onboard. They had not expected to find this quadrant inhabited. Not after "The Cleansing" occurred eons ago. The universal genocide perpetrated by them which, they thought, had wiped this spiral arm clean of "alien" life. Apparently they were mistaken, as the life force scanners were quite obviously showing.
"Quiet!!!" shouted the one in command. "Our ancestors would not approve. We must finish the job."
-------------------------------------------------
After a year of peace and harmony, Gen. Gretchen was rather enjoying life. About the most exciting thing to happen around Camp Canine lately was when Maj. Lluvia and her humans came to town to visit. But, nothing remains the same forever . . . . . .
-------------------------------------------------
The DOTL scientific outpost on Beagle, a small earthlike planet orbiting Anatares in the constellation Scorpius, was busy. The FTL scanning neutrinoscope had observed something very puzzling. For several days they had been tracking a FTL object on a course from the galaxy core towards this sparsely populated arm. Now, it vanished from the scope in the blink of an eye. The last fix of the object had it about one LY from Beagle.
Then there was another surprise, this one from a new reading on the NLS scope. Curiously, this reading was also about one LY out . . . . . . . .
--------------------------------------------------
Gen Missy was quite now used to her new digs here in the Rainbow Realm. Green grass, cool streams, sunshine to lay in, shade when you want it. Plus, she didn't have to eat that crummy old dogfood the old caretaker used to give her! Not ever being hungry does have it's advantages.
The only thing she missed was a little high adventure. Things had been kinda slow in the old Realm lately. Sure, she loved greeting the new arrivals and getting them squared away, but still . . . . .
And then she sensed it . . . . . .
----------------------------------------------------
Gen. Jax was getting a wee bit tired of getting ready to go "full timing", as his humans liked to call it. He rather liked the wild and wooley Northwest, and didn't see much point to hauling the big doghouse on wheels around the country to see the "Biggest Ball of Twine" and other "not to be missed" attractions.
He, like Gen Gretchen, had been lounging around all winter, spring and now almost summer. Just lazing away in the sunshine, just yawning, stretching and the like. In the middle of a particularly luxurious stretch, Gen Jax snapped back to full alert status. Something really bad was about to happen somewhere, he had just gotten that definite "feeling" . . . . . . . . . . .

One by one, without official notification, the DOTL start to sense the danger looming ahead. They have a nose for these matters.
Soon, it will be time again for a general call to arms. The Defenders must regroup for yet another challenge. The forces of darkness and evil never really rest, therefore the DOTL's job is never done.
No DOTL's know this now, but one day, "Remember the Beagle!" will ring forth as a DOTL battlecry.
