Hello!
I own a 1997 Jayco 1207DD. My family is going to be camping soon, and I'm interested in doing the "Reflectix Mod", where you cutout inserts to place between the window screens and the zippered canvas cover. Last night, I rough-measured all the windows so I have an idea of how much material to buy. 33" x 46', plus 11' x 7' for under the mattresses. WOW!!!

First problem, Lowes carries the Reflectix in 24" Width and in 48" width. Obviously, 24" isn't wide enough, and I don't want to trim 15" off the entire roll to make it 33" wide. That's a lot of "waste". If someone could please point me in the direction of 36" wide material, I would appreciate it.

Secondly, if there is a cheaper alternative to reflectix that works just as well, I'm all ears!! For example, a local hardware shop carries rolls of 36" wide material that is like 1/8" green foam with foil backing on one side. (Radiant Barrier?) Would that be as good? Any other alternatives??

Last question is, once I cut-out the material to become an insert, how do I prep the edges to keep the layers from separating? (Assume Reflectix for now.)

Thanks!!

First, I've read that Ace Hardware sells Reflectix by the foot. If true that should reduce the amount of waste compared to having to cut a roll.

Second, you should be able to cover the edges with aluminum or regular duct tape.

Third, those that have done the mod have recommended that you first cut a template using cardboard and then use that to determine where to cut the Reflectix.

Hope this helps.

on some of my applications I "seamed" the reflextic with a good quality silver tape, it has lasted well. I got the 24" wide roll to have as little waste as posssible. Sorry I don't know about the other stuff. reflextic does work well, is sturdy, (doesn't fall apart when taking it in and out) Sometimes I try to do better and save money and then end up back at the product that had the good reviews.

Does the silver (aluminum) rub-off onto the tinted windows?

Anyone use "TempShield" from Radiant Barrier? It seems to have the same specs, but is a lot less expensive.

Very little waste on 48" wide if you 'overlap' the triangular shapes.

On the reflextic, it does not rub off. The Radient Barrier looks very similar.

For under the bunk ends I have read that some people use the insulated foam board....from what I have seen at Home Depot, it is inexpensive and should only take 3 to do both ends (at least for our PuP). This is what I am looking at to use for our bunkends. I am trying to find Reflectix for a reasonable price to do the windows, also......

Have not had a problem with the edges separating.......I used the "good" silver tape too....to tape peices under the bunkends and to tape a peice of plexiglass in the storm door.

If I do choose Foam for under the beds, what color (blue or pink foam) and how thick would you recommend?
