About last year heard some rumblings on a new Coos county campground by Hauser and Spinreel called Riley Ranch. Campsites, trails, dune access! Thought I would check up on it again since I heard thru some dune forums that this place will have water and power hookups. Here is the link to Riley Ranch:

Riley Ranch

Here are the responses I got from an email query:

The dune access is not yet built, the Campground should be open by summer and yes it will have appox 80-100 RV sites with water and electric hook-ups. We are hoping to have the dune access also in by summer 2008. But it is just an estimate at this point. Any further questions you may contact us at the number below or by email.

Thanks for checking on us. We are waiting on the USFS to complete
our access permit which we hope will be done by 12/31/07 if no complications arise. We can then start the construction of the access bridge over the railroad by spring of 08. In the mean time we are working on the first 50 RV sites and hope to have the water and electrical in by 12/31/07. We have a grant application in for a flush restroom/shower building and if successful should have that up and running by next summer. Be sure to stop in and look at our progress or call before you leave and I can let you know if we are
open. Once again thanks for the inquiry and keep in touch. Larry

Sure seems like a very S-L-O-W process to me. I think I've been hearing about this campground opening for three years now.

Coos Bay sounds fun. How does it compare to Florence? We've been to Winchester Bay twice and want to try something new.

Its too bad about no sewer dump per site at this new spot. I guess you can bring one of those little portable dump tanks and ferry it over to the main dump.

We ride Florence a lot and love it, went to WB last summer and thought it was okay, but thought Florence was much better. Friends of ours ride CB all the the time and prefer it over any other of the Oregon Dunes. Part of the reason I prefer Florence is that I can ride on the beach by the water, sounds strange I guess but I enjoy those twilight rides a great deal.

We were riding at Coos this summer and the road to ride from Riley out to the dunes had been worked on....just needs the final access. If there won't be a dump at Riley at least there's one close by across the highway at Tutman. If I'm able to get up there in the next couple of weeks I'll scope out the progress.

Interesting. I will be at Horsfall in 2 weeks, and I will have to check it out. I am embarrassed to admit that I did not know Riley Ranch was there!

I think I saw this under construction last summer.

I assume you won't be able to have booz there?

The entrance from the highway is just north of truck scale lane....which is a short distance north of Hauser Rd/KOA. The entrance from the highway is usually closed.

My guess is that alcohol will be permitted as this is not sand camping. I think it will be like Horsfal....ok in the campground, but not out on the sand.
