Hi All,

Our October campout is approaching very quickly. I wanted to mention a few things.

  1. Friday evening when you arrive, if the park's office is closed for check-in, proceed to the group camping area, you can check-in and pay for your site Saturday morning before breakfast. As you're entering the park on Park Road 57, you'll go the left as you approach the park's headquarters. The group camping area is a bit further down the road to your right. All of the sites are pull-thrus so they'll be easy to get into.

  2. We're having a get-together Friday evening when you arrive. We'll be furnishing hot dogs and all the fixings so you don' t have to fix dinner Friday evening upon arrival. Bring a side, chips, beans, etc. for everyone to share.

  3. Paper goods and plasticware will be furnished throughout the weekend for the rally.

  4. Name tags and lanyards will be furnished so everyone can get to know each other.

  5. We do have the offer of a "park ranger program" sometime during the weekend. I'll be discussing the best time with the park's interpretative ranger upon my arrival.

  6. Our group camping area does have a couple of community fire rings, not individual ones. If you'd like to bring wood, please do so.I have not heard anything about a "fire ban". With all the rain they received from Ike, I doubt there is a fire ban in effect.

  7. We'll be having a potluck breakfast Saturday morning and a potluck dinner Saturday evening. The times are 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, respectively.

  8. Kim Ochs, the park's ranger, and his family will be joining us for the potluck dinner. He and his wife are one of our best friends. He was stationed at Daingerfield State park for close to 20 years before moving to Lake Somerville.

  9. Saturday mid-morning and afternoon is "free time" to explore on your own. I know we'll be going in to College Station to visit the Presidential Library. There's lots to see and do in the area.
Greg has offered to provide us with a movie Saturday evening after the potluck. Thank you Greg! Bring on the popcorn!

  10. Sunday morning we'll be hosting a "Continental Breakfast" before everyone leaves. Even though we're own paying for the dining hall's use Friday and Saturday, Kim Ochs, said we can use the dining hall Sunday morning as well. I assured him we'd leave it clean and back in order.

  11. Fees for the weekend include $15 a night camping plus your daily entrance fee (unless you have a park pass), you're responsible for those fees upon arrival at the park. These are paid directly to the park. Upon arrival, if the office is open, let them know you're with my group and you're in the group camping area.

  12. The dining hall is being rented for $75 a day (Friday and Saturday). I have paid for the weekend's rental. Donations to cover the rental plus rally supplies will be accepted. The dining hall is the perfect size for a 14 rig rally. I really think you'll like the facilities.

  13. The group camping area does have their very own dump station. Yea, with the park being sold out, this is a very nice advantage!

  14. Please let me know if you've got any questions. If you'd like my cell number, please send me a PM.

We're looking forward to a great time and hopefully wonderful weather.

Your hosts,

Chuck & Terry

Hi All,

Due to a scheduled surgery, we have a site that has opened up for the Lake Somerville State Park rally. The first party to let me know they would like the site gets it. I have also posted to the NTXCA group.

Hi All,

I've filled one of the sites, that means there is ONE site left for the campout/rally.

Hi All,

I just checked the weather for our rally weekend and wow, it's going to be spectacular! During the day it's forecasted to be in the mid-80's, lower 60's at night! It just doesn't get much better than that!

Well see everyone next weekend.

I took the travel trailer out this weekend to shake it out. It has been sitting since early April. 7.5 MPG But the new Tundra pulled it just fine!

We plan on getting to Somerville around noon-ish on Friday.

Hey, Mike glad the "shake-down" short trip went well. We're looking forward to the campout next weekend.
