Sounds like his dump trailer was loaded to around 17K gross, with about 2K tongue weight. He was no doubt way overweight, but the Excursion is basically the same as an F250/350, so it's not like most light duty SUVs.


Could also be that they had a whole bunch of rocks in the truck itself. 10k lbs. That wouldn't bother me at all.....it's only 800 lbs over the GVWR. 17.3k combined weight isn't too bad at all. I'm right in that ballpark with my setup....I wouldn't be afraid to tow up to the 20k lbs. GCWR max. If I had much more tongue weight though, I'd definitely get airbags....they seemed to work well with the softer springs in the X's.
