"Summer help" do not have arrest authority.
DNR CPOs don't have to worry about "ticket allotment". They don't have an "allotment" they have to write. They have plenty to do already.
Having spent a lot of years in LE and even making a pass thru a lot of state parks and working closely with DNR CPOs there's more to the story than is being told.
The very first thing any LEO learns is you never ask a guy who's been drinking if he's causing problems because they never are. Sort of like one of the last guys I arrested. He was staying in his own campspot, wasn't causing any problems, and he was just drinking his beer. Except the other campers around him didn't think he should be standing up taking a whiz in his campfire with kids around. But he wasn't bothering anyone, or so he said.

We're from Wisconsin now (but I was born and raised in Illinois) and I've never really understood the "up nort'" mentality. Plenty of people from southern Wisconsin go up north to fish, etc, too.
Our favorite campground is in Illiniois! I think the state park system in Illinois is nicer - easier to contact, make a reservation, more electrical sites, more trees, don't need a sticker - than in Wisconsin, but I know people that disagree.
Just my 2 cents.

Wadcutter if there is more too the story. It has to be on the State Ranger's end. I too have worked with LE and was a fireman for 19 year's in that area. This is getting way off subjsect. Wea should continue this in a PM.

No doubt could have been a complaint from other campers. You wouldn't know that tho.
The rules are simple whether it be a state park or a privately owned park. If you don't like the rules or you don't have the self-discipline and integrity to obey the rules then the simple solution is - go someplace else.

Something another poster got me thinking. Maybe if Illinois charged an entrance fee to non-residents, they could afford to upgrade their reservation system to on-line.

DavesWife wrote: I'm not sure what you mean... When I camed at Ottawa Lake last summer, it was $10 a night for daily entrance fee. So for 2 nights I paid an extra $20 on top of the $48 camping fee. And the sales tax and hotel taxes Illinois residents pay help subsidize the use of the roads and infrastructure.
Congratulations. As a non-resident you paid $10 total more than I would have paid. What I mean is that's not enough, seeing as how we pay for the parks to begin with through our income taxes. Wisconsin charges an entrance fee to everyone - $7/day for residents, $10/day for nonresidents, and $25R/$35NR for the annual sticker. If you come up more than once, by all means buy the sticker or you're throwing money away.
Oh, and you nonresidents, especially the ones with IL plates - Wisconsin State Patrol loves you. These guys and gals WILL pull cars over, no doubt (I've got two friends that are troopers). There's a reason why I hit decelerate on my cruise control when I cross the state line from IL to WI.
