Hmmm - for some reason my 1st post didn't "take", I think - wouldn't open.. So I'll try again! Just picked up a 10 year old 1200 watt Tripplight inverter (LIGHTLY used!!! no pun intended...) for the van. I have been unable to find any web reference even on Tripplite's site as to cable sizing for this unit. I have about a 6' or less run from the coach battery. Looking for recommendations on cable sizing, type, and in-line fusing. thanks in advance - and sorry about the bad previous post link... ST

The first post did work.

There was one reply:

AWG 2 would be good. That would carry full load current with a voltage drop of about 2%.

I deleted the first thread.

Found the manual for the 600 watt version but not the 1200w.600 watt version
The fuse is for the cables. Size of the fuse depends on the size of the cables.

In order to deliver its rated output, your inverter will draw approx. 115 amps at its 12 VDC input. This assumes it is 85% efficient. (typical)

The required 12 VDC supply cable size depends on the total length of the supply circuit. Cables should be sized so that they deliver the 115 amps with no more than a 3% voltage drop. (also typical) Following are the maximum total circuit lengths (battery to inverter and return) for various cable sizes for 3% drop: 4ga-12'max, 2ga-18'max.

Maximum current capacity of 4ga cable is 160 amps, and 2ga is 210 amps. Fusing for these values will protect the wiring. Tripplite may specify lower values to protect the inverter. You'll have to ask them about that.
