I AM SO TIRED OF CAMPGROUNDS THAT SAY THEY HAVE WI-FI WHEN THE TRUTH IS THAT ONLY CAMPERS NEAR THE ANTENNA CAN GET IT.ONE MUST PACK UP THIER LAPTOP AND SHELP UP TO THE OFFICE TO USE WI-FI.I NOW ASK IF WI-FI IS AVAILABLE TRUOUT THE CAMPGROUND.IT,S NOT A MATTER OF LIFE & DEATH BUT IF IM PAYING FOR IT IN THE CAMPING FEE,I SHOULD GET IT.THERE I FEEL MUCH BETTER NOW.

I agree with you mung about advertising what they really don't have. Goes for many things at campgrounds. I know a few people who actually do need wifi. These days many people are able to work "on-the-go". Or, better than that, just want to surf the web while sitting under the awning!

I think all campgrounds should have a high-speed port at every site right next to the water, sewer and electric, so I can surf everywhere I go!

I have a Wi-Fire booster... it really helps when the signal isn't strong!

I understand you frustration, but 'LET IT GO'. We are so tied up in the 'I want here and I want now' lifestyle... com'on, so you have to go to the campstore to get a signal, so what. Maybe you'll meet someone, strike up a conversation and solve the worlds' problems.

Different things are important to different people. People that work over the internet need the connection. Fulltimers need it to communicate and conduct everyday affairs. My DW is working on her Masters online so it is important to her. I do agree with the OP in the fact that if the cg promises something, they should deliver. We wouldn't accept less from any other business, why should this be different? I turn m cell phone off and couldn't care about the outside world, just who we meet, for the time we are gone. But that is me. Different strokes.

This is still a new thing to the campgrounds, and it will take some time for them (and a lot of complaints from campers) before they get it right. I bet in 3-5 years it will be a given that every site gets a good signal.

All these campgrounds need to do is spend a few hundred bucks on signal repeaters and get someone to hook them up in logical spots. It's not hard, but I'm guessing that they consider this pretty low on their priority list.

One thing that I have found is that an internal antenna (in your computer)does not pick up a signal that an external antenna can. I have used netgear 2.0, which is a usb line that goes from my computer to the window. This will give me great wifi if I am about 75 ft. from the campground antenna.

We then bought a hawking's HI-Gain Wireless G Dish adapter. It looks like a mini dish. Picks up the wifi even when my netgear can't. Not clear on the range, but I have been very impressed so far. I am currently over 100 ft. from the campground antenna here and I have no problem staying connected to wifi. Is it fool proof? No way, but you may want to consider getting an external antenna before you go the route of an air card. I paid roughly 70 for each of the adapters I mentioned above. Hope this helps.

You need an external USB antenna on a 12 ft cable that you can hang out the window or stick up on the roof and then remember to always ask in the office for a spot close to the wifi antenna.

Most campgrounds state "WIFI available". I have never seen one advertise "Excellent WIFI signal at every campsite".

We must always manage our expectations so as not to be disappointed.

Go to our Website, click on the link for Radiolabs antenna and see how we deal with it. If you look at the picture of our Moho and toad on the header you'll see the Wifi antenna mounted on both rigs. Problem solved.
