Note: I also posted this thread in Fifth Wheels forum but just wanted to see if I get additional comments here.

OK, after blowing a rear tire on both sides, I'm thinking maybe the 5er is putting too much weight on the back axle. When hooked to your TV, should the 5th wheel be completely level?

I talked to the dealer where I purchased my rig. They also installed my hitch & leveled the unit. The service manager told me that they can't get a 5th wheel completely level when hooked up and that it's better to have a little rise in the front of the 5er so that TV handling isn't adversely affected.

Is this information correct or do I throw the BS flag?

Thanks for any inputs.

How much of a rise is there ? I was always told that it should be level, even if it means flipping the axles and then raising the hitch to level it.

I just checked the Dexter axle web site. Here is tip number 11 on the proper running of your axles.

Tip #11: It is very important to pull your trailer so that it is running level. If the hitch is too high or too low, the trailer axle(s) may be unevenly loaded and can result in premature tire or axle failure.

Many newer units are setup with height adjustments at the spring mounts, IMO a preferred option to axle flip (more moderate rise, not as much of an impact on entry height).

Add to the above posts: You can also adjust the kingpin housing up or down, depending on the need. If you blew tires on the rear axle, that could be a sure sign that you are overloaded on it and the front end needs to come down.
I echo the above in that the 5er needs to ride level for weight distribution.

The fifth wheel should ride level. As for blowing tires on the rear of your tow vehicle, have you weighed your rig? What size (load range) tires to you have on the tow vehicle?

ok was it the truck that blew the tires or the 5R that blew the tires?? if its the truck then maybe you have to much weight for the type of tires you have on it. Its not an HD so you may not have load E tires on the truck.
Big difference in the fix if its the truck that is blowing the tires.
