Mine was on the first recall but not included on this one...Great. Looks like this time they want to install a secondary burner on some units. Mine is a 2003 edition but just misses,

I recieved my paperwork on this recall earlier this week, and it basically says don't use your fridge if you aren't standing beside it. I phoned one of the "authorized" dealers to do the repair, and the earliest they could get me in was July 10th 2008. What a joke... but, I had just referenced a friend of mine to their company for a tent trailer, he ended up buying a 27ft travel trailer instead, so he called his salesperson for me, trying to get my trailer in earlier. Turns out, it's just some kind of shield they have to install, which is extremely simple to do, and I just have to drop my trailer off at the beginning of the week, and they will fit me in. Too lucky if you ask me! The service manager told my friend out of 200 000 fridges, there may be 5 that are truely having a problem. Better safe than sorry tho.

This gives me a reason to visit my camper again! Oh yeah, I love any reason! Just not enough time off to go camping.

When we camp, it's DH & me mostly. Occasionally step-daughter (16) comes, though not necessarily her choice

After reading this post, I called my dealer and told him that My fridge was a recall. He had us bring the TT in the next morning. (Love my dealership) Cheek and Shockley in Mechanicsville. They also took care of the Mud Dauper nest in the vent hole, which we did not know about. We were surprised to have that, even after reading the post here in reference to that situation. Now we have one more project to do. Screen the vent!!!

I first read the post about the DOMETIC frig this afternoon. Called them and got my repair ID number and three choices for repairers. The first one I called told me he had the repair kits on-hand and would come to my trailer and do the fix. So Sat. morn at 10AM he will come and do what needs to be done. Yaaaaaa!

I posted this in another thread:
I've taken mine in this past couple of weeks too. My refrig is documented/verified as being one affected by the recall.
Dometic was "by good faith, repairing and/or replacing the refrigerators." After April 1st, they no longer are replacing the entire refrigerator! The recall is ONLY for the Secondary burner housing.
After numerous calls to my RV dealership and Dometic, they still will not cover any of the charges. I got my trailer in 2002, been deployed for two years, had various orders off and on out of state, and they still will not cover my refrigerator. All because it is past the warranty of 3 years (no extended warranty documents).
But out of good faith, if you brought in your trailer prior to April 1st you were taken care of, now, I'm out of luck. All because they are not "required by law" to replace it. The recall is for the housing only.
My dealership says it will be cheaper to just buy a new refrigerator and have it installed (which will be over $1770.00). They say at least I'll get another 3 year warranty. BIG DEAL! It didn't help me last time....
I've filed a complaint with the NHTSA this morning. My next step is to contact my states Attorney General's office. I will be calling my dealership to see if they can replace it with a Norcold Refrigerator instead. I DO NOT want another Dometic ever again if I can help it. I would assume that a manufacturer that is aware of a defect (or even the possibility of one, to the extent they put out a recall) that they would take care of the consumer no matter what if they were affected. Apparently Dometic will not, even if it is a 1% probability.
Has anyone else felt this way or had this happen too??? I wish I had the time or felt comfortable to repare/replace the frig myself...

BCS,
From what I read on the recall site it said at no cost to you(consumer) you can get the fix. I hope when I take it to the dealer they do not say its gonna cost me...........if so I will not be happy. I will get on this first thing monday. I wil keep you posted.

I just received the official notice in the mail. Mine is not listed as one of the affected ones, but just for yuks I called Dometic and found out it IS affected.
SO.....why is it not listed on their letter? anyways, I called my dealer for an appointment. No time or date yet.
Bottom line is, if you have a model that is on their recall list, call Dometic regardless of the serial number. Save yourself some time, have the model and serial of the fridge and your VIN from the RV.
