Like many others my refer is effected by the Dometic Recall; and like many others I never received any notification from Dometic, the manufacturer (Forest River), or my dealer. I learned about this by word of mouth from other RVer's. I contacted Campers World in Houghton Lake, Mi to perform the work, as we are snow birds and live in our fifth wheel all winter. I was told that as of April 1st Dometic will not longer replace the cooling unit. I e-mailed Dometic regarding this, but got no reply. Has anyone had difficulty getting Dometic to honor there own recall. I have not yet filed a complaint with NHTSA, which is the link Dometic directs you to for non-compliance.

Quoted from Sticky in Tech issues

THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS OF RECREATIONAL VEHICLES THAT HAD THE REFRIGERATORS INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND DOMETIC WILL NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE AFTERMARKET REFRIGERATORS. DOMETIC WILL INSTALL A SECONDARY BURNER HOUSING FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL/MAY 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DOMETIC AT 888-446-5157.

No where does it state that Dometic will replace any cooling units. Only that they will install a safety shield.

My understanding is the cooling unit is replaced ONLY IF it completely failed due to the problem identified in the recall. However, if the cooling unit continues to work fine, then the recall provides only the shield.

Had our shield installed in Texas after reading about the recall on this website. My notification from Dometic arrived about a month ago.

Dometic was replacing busted cooling coils that burst down by the burner assembly on the refers that were recalled. They are no longer replacing the coils however.

Well, our fridge is included in the recall, but we didn't get a notice from Dometic or our rv manufacturer. I read about it on our Cedar Creek rv owners forum. So far, haven't been able to get a hold of anyone to fix the problem.

Like most of you, I heard about the recall through these online posts. I just looked up my unit and it is effected by the recall. What is scary though is that Dometics website says to NOT run the refrigerator on Gas what-so-ever! It also says that if you need to run it on electric to cut the refrigerator off at night! I don't know about you guys but I am planning on heading out this Friday. One would think that if this issue is so dangerous that they would send out express mail to people to notify them! I got two extended warranty fliers from Dometic last year, but they can't find my address in their files when something this important comes along! Just out of curiosity, are any of you going to not use your refrigerator at all until the repair is made?

Our rig went into the shop today to get this refer thing taken care of. The local RV repair shop here in Placerville, CA is an authorized repair shop for this recall. From what I understand something called an SBH kit has to be installed on the refer. I found out about the recall extension on this forum last Thurs, went on the dometic website..called the local repair shop Fri...they verified with Dometic..got approval no problem. We were told that if the refer had incurred any damage due to the faulty parts they would replace what was needed no matter what.
