Cat, cool, let me know how the shakes come out. I bet they're going to be delicious. You ought to post the recipe in the food area.

Hey Chuck!
The shakes were a BIG hit with my lady friends after our breakfast this morning. Very rich and filling though.... none of us could drink more than a small glass because I made such a big breakfast. To be honest a small one was about right since it was so rich & creamy & tasty.
As Rachel Ray would say.... YUM-O!

Hi All,
I haven't posted an update in a while, several things have been going on. One of the aspects of the Lap-Band I didn't research fully was the effect on my current medications that I am taking. I've got a lot of joint pain due to arthritis (yep I'm getting old).
I had to stop my anti-inflammatory meds a week before my surgery and couldn't go back on them until I got the okay from the surgeon. Terry and I met with the surgeon a week post-op and I found that my current medication was part of the "NSAID" family and those medications (if in pill form) can burn a hole in the pouch's (upper stomach) lining after you have a proper restriction.
So I trotted off to my PCP (primary care physician) to see about switching over to an alternate medication for inflammation of my joints. I have been in a lot of pain since stopping the medications. Guess what I found out, all of the necessary medications are part of the NSAID family.
Tylenol was the only approved pain killer I could take, no Aleve, no Advil, no nothing! Grrr! Finally after doing some additional research on many of the Lap-Band forums that I am active on, I found that I can take liquid NSAID's followed by Nexuim.
MY PCP has now called in a new prescription of a liquid anti-inflammatory, I'll be picking it up tomorrow. Hopefully it'll start working quickly.
The good news is hopefully as the weight come off the joint pain should lessen. I am approaching 40# weight loss right now. I'm having to go down to the next small pants size. Fortunately Terry hadn't taken the Goodwill load from when we cleaned out our closets at the first of the year, so I've got some brand new Dockers waiting for me to use once again.
Take care,
Chuck

...hey Chuck, what a trial! The great thing is what you touched on....as the weihjt goes away, your joint pain will definitely decrease and maybe even disappear. at some point, you will be able to do proper exercises, like stationary bike, that actually further help knee pain. I continue to wish you well, brother......

Yep, Craig, next week I get to get back in the pool, my incisions are almost finally healed. Very correct, as the weight comes off, exercising will almost become fun (I did say almost)! Right now there is too much pain to do anything but working out in the pool.

I am just now finding this thread and I'm fascinated. I was checking the N TX camping group's activities and found this. I hope you will continue giving updates. I need to lose and have been thinking lapband surgery is what I need. I recently started using a new weight-loss product and I want to see if I can do it this way first. So far, so good!
One of our friends had gastric bypass surgery and did very well with it. He was about your size. It got to the point where he couldn't afford to keep buying smaller slacks for all his new smaller sizes. He started buying his slacks at Walmart. He'd buy them a little snug, then tighten his belt when they became too large.
Good luck to you!
BTW, naproxen does come in a liquid, if that would help.

Hi Kathy,
I'm glad you found the thread as well. so far, I've been doing well. I'm still losing gradually and eating better than I have in the past. Right now I have no "restriction" so I can eat anything I want.
I was going to post an update this coming Thursday. This is when I get my "first fill" and when they start tightening down my Lap-Band. We'll see how that goes.
Again thanks for the support and your post.

Hope the meds you can take (liquid and Nexium) for the arthritis is helping.
Glad everything else has been going well.
Look forward to seeing your Thursday update.
