I agree with slmayor. I've looked at both Heartland and Keystone Montanas and hands down Heartland looks to be the better quality built trailer. Montanas are also nice but I think Heartland has em beat. The units look Very much like higher end units and are priced at decent figures. Check out RVwholesalers out of Ohio. I'm pretty sure there low pricing will give you at a good price to shoot for. JMHO... Good Luck

I looked at Heartland 3670 and 3400RL and both nice units. Glad I decided on the Montana 3400RL. Just love it!

If you aren't getting at least 25% off of the MSRP for the fifth wheel then you are paying too much. I bet you could get nearly 30% in this market. Get the dealer to throw in the hitch.

We personally went with Montana 3400RL and we love ours. It is the exact floor plan we wanted.

I am sold on the Heartland products, I owned a 2004 Keystone prior to buying a new Heartland Bighorn 3400RL last December. My brother-in-Law bought a new Montana about the same time. There is no comparison in quality, the Heartland has much more to offer for the dollar. And believe me Heartland is a much easier company to deal with on warranty issues. Check out the Heartland owners Forum. The fact that you have Heartland on your short list tells me you have already checked them out.

Good luck with what ever you choose.

Back to the topic of negotiations:

Don't forget to mention to the finace guy that you already have money lined up. Then he'll say he'd like to beat your current financing deal. Let him try. Then casually mention "I'd really like to have a (favorite dealer installed option). Do you think you could throw that in?" Odds are he will. If not, try to get something a little cheaper out of him. I got a $250 (installed, MSRP) dry cell battery out of my guy.

You have not because you ask not.

We are in the very first stages of negotiating for our first fifth wheel. After a LOT of research and talking with various dealers, we are leaning towards a Heartland 3670 Big Horn. (It is a toss up between that and the Keystone Montana 3400RL- any words of wisdom would be appreciated) We are trading in a 2006 loaded Fleetwood Bayside tent trailer. (ac, screen room, furnace, three way fridge, two stoves, three Yakima bike racks,...)The dealer has offered us $10,500.00 Cdn for the trade in and $44,512.00 purchase price for the fifth....that includes the trade in. How low do we go???? We will need some accessories such as a fifth wheel hitch and other assorted odds and sods.

Is the dealer in Canada or in the US?? It makes a HUGE difference in prices.

Sell the pop-up yourself. (should be easy!).
Check new unit prices on the internet. (lots of deals due to the economy).
Always price "apples to apples" as far as options (same options every time).

Lots of Canadians buy "across the border" due to much better deals.
(plus the exchange rate is good -for you- now).

Happy negotiating!

Sell your tent pop up outright. You are basicly giving it to them at that price. The Bighorn was on our short list and I feel it is the best buy in its price range. We rated the interior fit and finish higher than the Everest. More real wood and less vinyl wrap. We found a wholesaler in Michigan that would sell us a 3580RL net outwright for $47,000.

The dealer is offering to trade for 44,000? You should be able to buy the Montana for 42,000 PERIOD NO TRADE.

You better do some more shopping IMO. And yes, I own a Montana 3500rl that I bought new for 37,500 plus taxes LOADED with every option including 2nd a/c, fireplace, vaccum, awnings, alum wheels, ceiling fan, fantastic fan, philon siding, and much more.
