I did a search on here and found a few threads that talk about importing a trailer to Canada but has anyone actually done it? RVWholesalers has awesome prices and I will definitely buy from them if it isn't a hassle to bring it back to Canada. I have read that you will pay GST on it, no duty and a $200 import fee. But what is the process at the border?

Very straightforward. They have the forms ready, as they use the same one for vehicles, and they see hundreds of those. You can pay by credit card. The import fee is paid later directly to the registrar. RVW will provide you the required certificate of origin and the letter of no recall. RVW also provides a temporary licence plate and you must go to your car insurer to get a temporary coverage (e.g. point A to B). In Quebec we have a further complication in that private insurers do not provide insurance until we have the licence plate issued by the public insurance plan, and we can't get the licence plate insurance until we present the paperwork. But I remember somehow getting my provate insurer to agree to insure the travel trailer on point a to b.

And remember, the people you are dealing with did NOT make the rules. They probably don't like them any more than you do. Together you will get through the process. It would be a good idea to go to your provincial licensing agency and get their take on the process. Then you insurance agent. Then have a look on the Canada Customs web site where you can get the necessary forms and thereby be in a position to have all of the information you need. My SIL imported a boat with absolutely no problems. The Customs folks were down right happy to collect the GST and send him on his way.

Use the search function. Just searching for Canada will turn up lots of references. I recall this is dirt simple and takes very little crossing the border, but I only move mine half a dozen counties.

Ditto on the search - we did it last spring and I detailed out the steps we followed to get it done. The minor hassles were far outweighed by the cost savings. Your mileage may vary now that the dollar is at par though.

We did it last summer. A 5er from RV Price Busters in Ohio.
Prior to closing the deal, we contacted RIV to make sure that the unit was importable.
Also prior to leaving for the pick-up, we put insurance on it (wholesaler had provided a copy of the title/bill of sale with the VIN).
The wholesaler had all the correct paperwork included a 30-day temporary plate. This included a letter from the manufacturer that stated that there were no recalls on the unit.
At the border, Canadian Customs completed the import forms & we paid the GST & RIV fee (roughly $200).
We had expected that RIV would send us notification for a Canadian inspection. To date, this has not happened... maybe because the unit was ordered with the CSA option.

GeeksRUs,
We got the notification about the RIV inspection when we went to register the trailer with the Quebec Automobile bureau. The RIV inspection is done by your local Canadian Tire. CSA stickers do not remove the requirement for inspection. The RIV inspection is a road-worthiness inspection, takes 15-20 minutes.

its dog simple.
I just purchased a trailer from RVW in May. I live in SW ontario as well as the original person posting the question. Here's how it went for me:
- purchased thru RVW gave deposit via cc
- prior to pickup in Lakeview OHIO, I got the VIN# and put insurance on the trailer.
- drove to dealer, gave certified cheque for balance. they provided all paperwork required. They had a 30 day licence plate already on the unit
- drove back to ontario (crossed in Port Huron) and stopped at border. Said I had just purchased a trailer in US and went into office. Showed bill of sale (original) and recall letter that was provided by RVW. They filled out Form 1 and I paid the GST on purchase price.
- left border and went home. Went online and paid the $204.75 RIV fee (riv.ca) and waited for them to fax the inspection letter. Called CDN tire to schedule an inspection. They checked out the tires and reflectors and weight of trailer. Stamped the FORM1 as OK and then went to MTO to get ownership and plates. Paid PST there plus the plate fee.
-about 2 weeks later, received a letter from RIV with a sticker that I needed to put on the trailer.
all done!
saved me about 35% on the purchase price.
any questions from anyone please PM me.
cheers

It is simple and easy as everybody is saying.
If the trailer got CSA or not does not make a difference. YOU DON'T NEED A CSA STICKER
