Do nothing and see if it gets worse then consider replacing the bunkend. wildcard - try to reseat and glue it back down (not really an option for me since I am not too handy).

The Dealer should go to bat for you and offer to waive labor charges and give you the parts at there cost. I have had some issue being out of Warranty and thye did that for me

Hi there,

I am having an issue with our Starcraft Travel Star 23QBB. Seems that the bathroom floor went soft. Just weeks before our 1 year warranty was up. We bought it new in 2007 but it is an 2006. I brought it to the closest dealer and they contacted Starcraft. The dealer determined the water was leaking from the water hitting the back of the shower then channeling behing the sink cabinet. They sent pictures to Starcraft and Starcraft said it was our fault and the damage was due to neglect. NEGLECT???? I called the 'man' at Starcraft myself and said that we never saw any large amounts of water on the floor. The water mostly must have went behind the cabinet. Who looks in there???? It went under the flooring and starting warping the wood.

Well after my converstion with the warranty manager and his boss, they agreed to pay for the floor repair. Next issue was finding a Starcraft dealer capable of doing this kind of work. Well, we couldn't find one. They finally found one not too far that is not a dealer but an RV repair facility. They are willing to work with Starcraft to fix our floor. We will be bringing it in the next few days.

Just goes to show you that the dealer 'says' they are going to bat for you but there is no one better then YOU to go to bat yourself! Persistence as someone else said! I wasn't giving up and either should you!

I will let you know how this all turns out.

Suzie

UPDATE
*************************************

After contacting 2 dealers, none of them wanted to do the work or was capable of doing the work. One dealer refered us to a RV repair facilty in Sebastian, FL and Starcraft contacted them and agreed to pay for the work to be done there. After the repair shop looked over the trailer, they advised that the leak was coming from the roof seam at the back of the camper in the bathroom. He said it must have been leaking a long time as there was updated sealant on the roof (we didn't do it). My husband had inspected the seams and all and they looked good. The repair guy said it was slight enough to miss but was probably leaking before we bought it and was resealed! Anyways, they started work on it and we should have it back next week.

Learned a lesson - Be sure to check the roof even on a new camper because they could have been damaged and repaired on the lot!

I will let you know how our baby looks when we pick her up.

{{{{{After a week and half of my dealer fighting a battle regarding the Front Bunkend DeLaminating on my Antigua 215SSO and trying to get Starcraft to cover it. Starcraft won't cover it, says it is out of Warranty}}}}}

Before criticizing Starcraft' reputation, I have one question to ask: Did Starcraft tell you personally that they won't cover the cost, or is it the dealer that contacted Starcraft and told you that ?
Who knows......maybe the dealer doesn't want to deal with it and tries to put that problem in your hands.
So many dealers think that once the sale is done, their work is done !!!

I had StarCraft and my dealer cover a new set of tires after my 235SBS had been out of warranty for over 6 months. Perhaps your dealer is not really going the extra mile for you like he says. We were really pleased with both our Antiguas and the service from our dealer while we owned them. Push a little harder, you did pay premium for it and I'd expect to received premium service!

I guess anything is possible. I am in a Holding pattern. I have basically been watching it to see if it gets worse. If I could just get under it to glue it, I would be happy. A new panel is approximately $700 to 800. As for Starcraft's reputation, I am new to it so far I was happy. They repaired a rip in one of my bunkends but then again it was under warranty.

Cutlerbay,

That water on your bathroom floor might be coming from your shower hose. There is a drain hole underneath the faucets that, once you shut off the water, drains and unless you are perfectly level, it is going to the floor and not the tub. I put a bead of caulk on both sides of the faucet to direct the water into the tub.

I am not sure why the dealer has any obligation other than trying to persuade the manufacturer to cover the cost of repairs. You seem to think the dealer should warranty a product he only sells. Yes it would be generous of him to eat his profits on a sale finalized two years ago to make a customer happy, and hope the customer buys again to regain those profits, and hope that the customer brings in other customers by word of mouth advertising. I don't think I would do it if I was the dealer. You have to make a profit to stay in business, and that includes not giving up the profit two years later. Now if it was a $20 deal, then sure I would do it. But I bet in this case it will be hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to fix.

I sympathize with the original poster but I'm seeing more of this entitlement mentality displayed by the majority of previous posts. "Not my fault" is the claim here.

The trailer had a one (1) year warranty, long since expired. The manufacturer's responsibility ended there and was only for things that were their fault. Starcraft has indeed "stood behind" their product per their contract (warranty) with the customer. Expecting them to exceed their requirements is naive and unreasonable.

Damage of the sort noted occurs over a long length of time. Indifferent maintenance -- or no maintenance at all -- allows this to happen. Seals are prone to fail or wear out -- but the owner needs to do preventive maintenance checks and services. Any leaks, no matter how small have to be ruthlessly cured. Pretending they didn't occur leads to this sort of problem.

Going the extra mile? If this trailer was only a couple of weeks out of warranty there might be a chance, but...

Read your warranty. It's only good for so long. Don't confuse a good warranty and good customer service for a good product. A trailer with dozens of major problems remains a bad product no matter how fast the manufacturer or dealer got them fixed. This trailer apparently had zero problems for the first year, or the problems were ignored. Regardless, after the warranty period it's up to the owner -- that's us -- to maintain the product.

Chuck, my experience and others says otherwise. Since I have more than a little experience with these units having owned two I'm a little hard pressed to understand how in the world you believe him responsible for an act of de-lamination or how through regular maintenance he could have prevented it, in fact the dealer said they could not find water damage?! These doors are expensive and unless water has been entering through a flaw in the door that was visible through regular inspection and he chose not to do anything about it I'd be expecting StarCraft to at least pickup the cost of the door, install it myself or work a deal with the dealer.

It's called Customer Service and considering the market at present it is best through these times that manufactures step up to the plate and deliver it instead of lip service. I'm not calling into question the warranty but what I believe to be faulty components that should last the life of the unit, the doors are NOT regular wear items like a battery or light, they are like the roof and tent ends which carry a 12 and 7 year warranty respectfully.

I'm on the other end - I'm tired of people letting the manufacturer off the hook. A one year warranty? Gee, that's just enough time for a floor or wall to start getting soft, just in time for the warranty to expire and the manuf. to pass it off as neglect. I'm not defending the Op but I take a bit of exception to the "pass" so many people give these companies.

I can count on 2 hands the number of threads about first time trips resulting in leaking behind, around or near the shower enclosures. It's so common on some products, like the Rockwood Signature Series, that current owners tell new owners to caulk the shower and enclosure before use.

I think some of us are eager to drop the axe on the owner and write a free pass to companies who slap together products and warranty them just long enough to say they have a warranty. Anyone buying a unit should opt for the 2nd year coverage (Forest River) if avalaible and seriosuly consider those who offer it standard (Jayco, K-Z, etc.)

MHO....

I had no problem with StarCraft warranty as I believed the units were/are well made, 12 years on roof, 7 years on tenting(best in the business) plus the usual on all appliances from the respective manufacturers. Yes they shouldn't be left off the hook when manufacturing processes are faulty. I'm hopeful that if the OP takes up the discussion directly with StarCraft that he can get it resolved. I was really personally very happy with their product and CS so I hope they don't let him down.
