We're like Terryallan & mpfireman.
Games, talking, non-board games like "i'm going camping & i'm going to take...", stuff like that are great time passers. We also read chapter books out loud as a family. Kids have always loved that.

We play cards, board games, tell stories around the campfire. We also like to read. We bring along our book lights and sit by the fire(we do this the most). DH and I like to snuggle by the fire after the kids go to bed!

Wondering what do some of you do at night
to pass the time?

Walk, sit by the fire, read, play cards with friends on a rare occasion, sit out and watch the night sky and listen to the night sounds, talk to each other. We've been out on the road for as long as nearly a month and never even turned on the TV's.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

We spend time doing that really weird thing called talking. I usually end up with our five year old in my lap, and she will talk herself to sleep about everything her and the other kids did that day.

I also have a telescope my parents found at a garage sale. Most of the campsites we go too are far enough away from bright city lights you can actually see something.

If you're that into TV there are always movies on DVD.....but we just always enjoyed sitting outside by the campfire together talking...or if it's too hot for a campfire, we just sit and play maybe some other game or something....just being together is the best thing about camping for us. Now that we have to take Mom with us she usually wants to be taken in and watch tv or movies at night, but DH and I still just want to be together outside talking or relaxing.

We sit by a campfire, look at stars, an occasional DVD, other unmentionable but fun games, but NEVER video games

Depends on what mood we're in! We have a generator so we sometimes watch movies. Other nights we play gin rummy using our battery lanterns (when boondocking). Sometimes we sit outside by the fire with a nice stiff drink and enjoy the evening. Other nights we listen to XM radio either plugged in or by battery using our XM radio boom box when boondocking. Generally though, we go to bed when it gets dark because we're worn out from a full day's activities of hiking and exploring. Besides, being out camping really relaxes you (along with the stiff drink of course). Forgot to say the DH has a PSP he brings along and charges during the day to use at night. I read and he plays.

We cook together - play card games, and talk...believe me, with 4 sons- this is the best opportunity to really communicate - without all the TV, video games, cell phones, etc...It is truly family time. And we love every minute of it. Thank heavens for camping!

We also talk by the campfire, read, go for walks, play cards and watch the stars.

We only watch DVD's (on the laptop) if it rains or is very cold.
