Number one is you need quarters, LOTS of quarters!

I've never lived where you had to pay for parking.
So for me it was a culture shock, when I went into this little town to do some shopping...all the parking spots had meters and I had no change! You could not park anywhere in town without having quarters for a parking meter.

Hmmm I'm just going to be a few minutes in and out do I dare?
Looked in my mirrors and there was a meter maid, her hand clutching the trigger on her chalk gun.

So off to find somewhere to get change.
Banks closed, and I am here to tell you Walmart will NOT make change for you.

Drove around and ourside of town I found a laundermat and inside are change machines. Went in an changed a couple of 5's for quarters.
I swear all eyes where on me whether I was just going to grab the change and leave or do laundry with it. Not sure if it is 'required' that you have to spend it there?

And that brought me to the realization as to why you need even 'more quarters'. When traveling short trips, you bag up your dirty laundry and take it home to wash it.
Oh, Oh, I no longer have a home!

So IMHO there should be a warning posted somewhere that you need to have a ton of quarters with you at all times, when heading out as a full-time RV'er!

And the first time I went grocery shopping I got up to the cashier and looked at my cart......what I was about to purchase yes would have fit in my Sub Zero, double doored monstrosity back in my house, but it sure was NOT going to fit in my new size MH fridge. I slinked out of line and put 90% of it back on the shelves!

Are there any more 'unsuspecting little surprises' like this that I should know about?
What caught you off guard when you headed out for the first time that you hadn't thought about?

Have run into one more place were you will need Quarters...You might be ok (shower in your RV) but some camp grounds have pay showers...feed it with quarters like a car wash....
We were going to Isle Royal in lake superior one year....It was a diving trip with 5 of my buddies...We knew the shower on the Island were pay showers so we stopped at a casino on the way up to get change...Now this was 6 guys (all wearing camo) walking into a casino...we walked in and then right to the casher booth....would not you know is was in the back of the casino.....got our change and then walked out.....never spent a dime on the slots tables or anything.......The security was so freaked by the time we hit the front door we had 4 guys flowing us and out side another 2 watched us get into the van and then got in a car and flowed us to the marina.....
Moral of this story
never take 5 close friends (all in camo) to a casino to get change.

When you buy a watermelon you better be ready to eat a lot! No room in the fridge and it goes bad left out. I pick the biggest one because DH says he will help eat it then doesn't

When still tent camping our little family of 4 (kids pre-school) we picked some wild berries and bought ice cream to go w/ them. We had to eat a whole 1/2 gal of ice cream at one sitting because it wouldn't keep in the ice chest. It was fun at the time. My arteries probably still have some of that IC in them....

I kept an old shaving kit bag under front seat for saving quarters, mostly for laundromat.

For the last few years, hubby has been throwing those STATE quarters into various containers around the house. Two weeks ago he decided to count them. $442.00!!! Well, I suppose we are set when we start fulltiming in February. (At least for a little while). He will be proud to know he finally did something right! LOL
