Just curious what various small trailer owners are towing with, and what kind of milage (while towing) your seeing.(MPG BS'ers need not respond ) I tow my 2007 Funfinder X 139 with a 2500 Dodge ram with the hemi. Average 8-10 mpg. Am considering downsizing, but would only do so if I could GREATLY increase towing MPG and still tow safely. Our truck is rarely used outside of trailering, and the occasional lumber run, so am only motivated by towing mpg.We really enjoy the secure feeling we get towing the little FFx with the big truck, but would love to see 16-18 mpg. Had cosidered a Honda Ridgeline, but have heard rumors of 10-11 mpg towing. Anyone getting stellar milage towing there small rigs?
Jeff
I AGREE THAT THE COST OF "LIVING" IS HIGH, BUT IT REMAINS QUITE POPULAR!
2003 Dodge Ram QC 4x4 2500.5.7 Hemi.3.73 9MPG ouch!

I seem to average 11 when towing. TV '99 AWD GMC Safari. (4.3 V6 & 3.73 gear ratio. My unit GVWR is 3600, drywt w/options 2700. 20' w/hitch 8' wide.) When touring around w/o the camper, we can get from 17-24 mpg depending on the terrain. I drive 55 for optimum mileage.

I get 16 mpg running at 60 towing a Casita 17 with a 2000 Chevy 2wd Blazer.
I got about 10 mpg towing a 20' Wildwood with the same Chevy.
Weight and wind resistance make the difference.

We have a 2003 Dodge dually 4x2 automatic diesel with Leer cap. We are towing a 2007 ECO by Skamper 18' trailer. I recently put on 700 km (420 miles) to bring it home and after filling brim to brim and hand calculating got 22.5 Imperial mpg ( 18.75 US mpg). Road speed was 96 kmh ( 60 mph) on cruise ( 1600 rpm). Truck never shifted out of OD. I also am not using a sway device or WD set up. Not needed. No sway etc. I still have to let out some more air in the rear tires of the truck as it still skates over road bumps. This is a very pleaureable tow combination. I can pass at will if I want and still expect excellent fuel mileage.
2003 Dodge Laramie SLT 3500 dually diesel 4x2 auto with 2007 ECO Skamper 718QB. Love this combo. Very fuel efficient, lots of room, easy to park and set up.

For sure... What is more important than towing fuel consumption is solo driving, which for most of us is approx 80% of the time.
This is the key.
Here is the the formula.
They tow TT's with smallish, light weight YV's like these and they handle and perform very well.
Subaru WRX

4 cyl diesel or gas Ford Mondeo

BMW x3
Even our V6 Mini Van got over 25 MPG solo and 16 MPG (imp gals) towing the 23' aerodynamic TT.

This diesel Jetta gets exceptional mileage towing and solo. The car solo gets over 50MPG solo and 27 to 32MPG towing the Airstream. Note IMP gals.

We tow a very small fiberglass trailer (1400 lbs. & 6'x 5.5' frontal area) with a Toyota Sienna minivan. We averaged 16.1 mpg towing from Texas to Oregon and back. Drove 60 mph on cruise control. Without the trailer, we averaged 25.6 mpg on a trip from Texas to Ohio and back with cruise set on 70 mph.

We tow an 18 foot Eco with our Toyota Tundra iforce 7.5 liter, V8. It gets about 15-16 mpg in town solo. It got 12.5-13.5 mpg when I was towing in Texas and Oklahoma where I could tow in overdrive. However, towing in the altitude of New Mexico in multiple hills/mountains (not towing in OD), it only got 9-10 mpg.

The best travel trailer MPG I'm aware of is a 13' Scamp pulled with a Pontiac Vibe. It gets mid 20's MPG towed in 3rd gear (of a 4 speed automatic) @ 55-60 MPH.
For your Fun Finder 139 you'd need more than a Vibe..How about a Ford Ranger 4 cylinder (or small V6) pickup? Should get into the high teens. OTOH probably an older Dodge Cummins would do about the same towing your trailer.
The Fun Finder is light but not particularly aerodynamic. Try a run at 55 MPH and see what you get..

We tow a 22' Airstream SS with a Honda Ridgeline. Mileage will vary. Worst case was 10.8 uphill at 7000-9600' with a headwind. Best was just above sealevel with a tailwind, 18.3. A realistic 14-16mpg is easily attainable.
