I dont have my maps with me but from Cuernavaca to Acapulco is a beautiful toll road. Expensive but nice and some of it is new. Cardenas to Patzcuaro is also partially toll road ( maybe even all toll road). I have not been on it for a long time. We were in a truck camper and it was OK. The ones to avoid are from Oaxaca to the coast. Not recommended. You say you are heading to Toluca from the south. Are you coming from the east Coast? Where?

On edit:
Hwy. 200 on the coast of Guerrero has no redeeeming qualities. Actually all the way from Chiapis to Manzanillo I think it sucks. Slow going with lots of topes, no CG's other than Acapulco and a few around Escondido that are either full or too small. This past winter we went to Oaxaca and then just took the same route back to Guad and then the coast. We used to head to the coast but IMHO it is not worth the effort. Your rig is longer than mine and if you get behind a slow moving truck passing would be almost impossible. There are one or two new CG's somewhere around Cardenas. The one at Playa Azul is quite bad!!

Moisheh - Still in the planning stage but close to final route.
Yes we will be coming from the East Coast. Catemaco to Puebla to Taxco and then the problem. We were going to continue on to Patzcuaro thu Toluca until this series of posts. Now we are just trying to refine this leg of the trip. Which is better - Thu Toluca or down to the West Coast and back up to Patzcuaro? Your judgement is valued as you know how big we are. Thanks!

So Mrs. Rocmoc is still hung up on Taxco?? I dont know where you are going to park that rig anywhere near Taxco. I would leave the trailer in Cuernavaca and take the truck. If some kind soul could tell us how to circumnavigate Toluca this is your best bet. Once you leave the city it is toll road all the way to Guad. Except for a piece near Guad it is super highway. I think we were doing about 68 mph. Smooth and almost no climbing. Nice scenery as well. The other route would be hundreds of miles out of the way and a big PIA. Remember that if someone does come up with a route it has to be current as the roads have changed.

Moisheh, When are you thinking of going thu the area? We are looking at Late-Dec. Do you think it is more do-able and less chance of being stopped on a Sunday?

I am sorry I do not understand. Where are you planning to travel on sunday. Mexico city or Toluca??? I would not worry about the transitos in Toluca. As long as you keep to the laterals they will not bother you. Hopefully. I have zero experience with Mexico City.

chris, that information is far from current and up to date, so I would have a problem with the DF section also. The last I heard, they had exempted "foreign" plates from the restrictions.
