Gas prices have limited us to where and how far we can go. Fortunately I am currently stationed in Alaska and great campsites really aren’t more than an hour drive for us. Unfortunately I am about to receive orders for another PCS move, which will probably be down in the lower 48.

If we get orders to the lower 48, I plan to take leave enrout (about 40 days) and make a slow deliberate trip to our next destination through Canada. This way we can sustain a workable budget as the government will absorb most of the cost associated with the move.

This is one of the many things that I love about the military. As I see it, we can make one great vacation every 2 or 3 years on a PCS move. However, for the rest of the time we plan on making frequent weekend trips to the local state parks to enjoy: camping, fishing, and meeting new people.

As I see it

Cost of fuel = 100 dollars
Cost of campsite = 30 dollars a day
Cost of food to feed a family of 6 and 1 Labrador = 100 dollars
Cost of spending time with your family = priceless

Now I have to figure out how to drive my TT to Europe

We are getting a seasonal site. We will still some vac's that are more mobile but I had quite a sticker shock last time we towed our trailer a 3 hour drive to visit BIL cost us 180.00 (driving into 45-60mph headwinds, went back roads to keep our speed down) in gas on the way down and 130.00 in gas on the way back in addition to 60.00 for the campsite. We could have just driven the car and stayed in a nice hotel for that amount. I guess if it wasnt a 2 night trip (supposed to be 1 night but i had a fit at the thought of paying that much for gas and turning right back around) if it was longer the sticker shock wouldn't have been so bad. We leave in a couple weeks for another road trip 3 hours north this time so we will see how the gas thing goes. I guess I plan to spend lots of money on longer trips but not so much on shorter trips. My fault I guess
