I'm new to this forum, but found your topic interesting. To give you an idea of what I do working from the road on the computer.
My wife is a travel RN and I started a medical staffing business that I work from our 35ft TT. All I need is a PC, fax and telephone to do everything. Hospitals call me up looking for a RN or pharmacist, and I gladly go out and find them one.
I've been doing this since 2007 and enjoy it very much.

You know, I hear a lot about "working from your home", especially using a computer but I am very skeptical. I don't really know of anyone doing it; do you? My daughter is dabling in doing it but she is skeptical also so far- too inconsistent and not really paying much for the time put in. So I think unless one has a high level of skill and is actually working for a stable, known employer- not likely to happen but Good Luck.

I know several people who are, or were, working from home. My son is a programmer who worked from home until he ended up in management. A friend of mine (also a computer programmer) works from home on Whidbey Island in WA.
My field is construction estimating (reinforcing steel). Granted, this isn't something that someone could start off working from home, but with a few years experience it's certainly feasible. I have 28 years of experience, with the last 8 years spent telecommuting. I tried to retire last year, quit my salaried job and started freelancing. People send me more than enough work. I haven't needed to pursue work.
My work really doesn't require a degree. I have one in architecture, but a decent knowledge of construction drawings would be a solid start. The degree doesn't matter. What matters is the ability to put together a project in your mind and keep track of where you are in the estimate so you don't leave things out.
I use plans that are downloaded from plan services, software to view and do quantity takeoffs, then an Excel program I wrote to put it all together. There are lots of estimating programs that others use, but like mine because I can do a lot of things that the canned programs can't. I'm biased
Construction estimating is something where there is always demand. It's extremely difficult finding estimators. You can't just buy a computer, some software and start making money, but with some experience to back you up you can make a very nice income...and work from anywhere you want.

I read through a lot of these post. It seems like most here are working really hard for pennies. I've found some legitamite places that you can work from a home office. IE Customer service for the IRS, order entry and other places. What I've see as far as pay is $8hr up to $20hr.
At the end of the day you are still having to work set hours and you answer to someone. That's why I love running my staffing company from home. I set my own hours, it's flexible and I bring in six figures.
Oh and by the way I'm definetly not some brain child. I spent 9 year in the Army Infantry and started this when I got out. Hope this helps.

Adburke,
You may not be a brainchild but you're smarter than me. I have to go to an office to make mine :-) BTW - Thanks for your service to the USA!

Where and how do you start, once you have an idea of sorts? I'm sure there are people out there with amazing contributions that would benefit us all. They just don't know yet..........Independant Business Operations!!! ain't technology great!!!???

Interesting thread. I've been looking for a way to make money on the Internet for a while now and I finally found something I can work with and make some decent cash. I've tried many many different things but had no success until now.
I'm a member of a site called Wealthy Affiliate and it's working for me. I've started to earn some money and I'm thrilled. I figured out why this site has helped me so much while all the other stuff I've tried didn't do a thing for me. This site has all the information you need to market affiliate products and they give it to you in a step-by-step manner that anyone can follow.
They provide all the tools you need and also free web hosting and much, much more. It costs me $29.00 a month to belong but it's worth 1000 times that. I've already made a few sales from using their program and I've only been using it for about 3 weeks. I just need more time to get more information up on the Web. I highly recommend them.
If you'd like to learn more about them, you can go to my Squidoo lens where I give a much better explanation about what they offer. You can find my lens at:

Hope you find this helpful. I know I am estatic that I've finally found a way to start making some money on the Net so we can begin to plan our full-time rv life.

Hey Tod,
I'd like to know more about what you're doing. Could you email me at marg3049@telus.net. I assume I'm allowed to put my email address on the forum. If not, could you tell me on here.
We still need one more good thing to help us out along with what we're already doing.
Thanks
