Are you looking for a reason to full time, or a reason not to full time? Am I missing something? The answer is obvious! Dave

Way to explain it Firedude. I just printed your story and will share it with the DW. She wants to FT, but has reservations. I think your story will push her the right way.
Our home is free and clear, that was our retirement goal. Since last Aug we have seen homes in our neighborhood drop in price and still not move. The housing market here was over inflated anyway. So if we hit the road, the house can sit until the market settles down. When and if we sell, the MH gets paid off (only debt) and the rest goes to CD's.
I figured out what it's costing us to keep the home in Utah and thereby having to claim Utah as our residence. Just under $10,000.00 a year, this includes State income tax, utilities, license and registration for the MH, trk, and two cars along with vehicle insurance. If we full time and sell the sb, we'll add close to $9000.00 to our cash flow per year by setting up SD as our residence.
So, the answer to the title of this thread in our situation is, "I don't think so".

GEDmamma wrote: Equity -- what's that? The market is so bad here I watch the value go down each month. The houses to my immediate east and north are empty in forclosure. We have planned to sell next summer when we retire and go fulltime. We'll still try to sell and retire. Equity, is the amount of money due you, if any, after all outstanding debt and expenses on the home have been satisfied, after the sale of your home. If you owe more than your home will bring in a sale, that is then called a short sale. On a short sale, you are still on the hook and legally obligated to pay this difference referred to as negative equity, or risk being sued. That's what equity is, explained, in the case of the home you are living in.
I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

We just received a letter yesterday from a young couple (~50 yrs old) and he has changed jobs. He was an over the road salesman and now is a school custodian. He felt that since all his free time from the salesman job was spent either being on the church property committee or working in the property/custodial area volunteering to help people with their custodial type work, then hey, why not do what he most enjoys doing. Yes, his wife says she is much happier now, they even bought a smaller house recently, and will have their other one on the market soon.
My point?
As I read this post I thought, yes, do what you enjoy doing. Hubby enjoys driving tour bus and I would prefer him home, but he is happier working part-time, so why not have him happy. If you are comfortable or enjoy doing whatever you do, why change.

The bank took my home after I hurt my back. My travelling companion and I receive, between us, $1300/month in disability pensions. It quickly became apparent that we couldn't afford to live indoors anymore, so we moved into my 20 year old RV. We can't afford the gas to see the country, but we could afford long-term camping in a discount campground in a very pretty region of it. As long as we eat most of our meals out of cans, our budget including maintenances, insurances and utilities seems to be pretty close to break-even. If any other full-timers out there are living on less, I'd appreciate any tips you can give me.
