Reluctant Camper wrote: The bank took my home after I hurt my back. My travelling companion and I receive, between us, $1300/month in disability pensions. It quickly became apparent that we couldn't afford to live indoors anymore, so we moved into my 20 year old RV. We can't afford the gas to see the country, but we could afford long-term camping in a discount campground in a very pretty region of it. As long as we eat most of our meals out of cans, our budget including maintenances, insurances and utilities seems to be pretty close to break-even. If any other full-timers out there are living on less, I'd appreciate any tips you can give me.
Boondock in the warm months if you can find a decent area somewhere near where you want to live. Cost is near zero though you have to dump and load water occasionally. The fuel cost to do that is usually far lower than paying for a parking place with campers all around you. If you need power, migrate off 120VAC and replace 120VAC stuff with 12VDC stuff. You can get 120VAC stuff down to microwave and AC real easily. That way you only have to run the generator to charge the house batteries occasionally. Just move around a bit and keep your site looking nice.
Most importantly, think of fulltiming as an adventure and it'll be fun.

And maybe buy real food instead of canned garbage. Compare costs, real food is the least expensive way to eat other than instant noodles in salt liquid.

Reluctant Camper consider workamping at a Army corps park. free rent and utilities for 20 hours work. Im even getting free wifi. Its not hard work and you really get to meet some great people.
With a bad back you could possibly work in the office, answering phones and doing paperwork.
