Hi,

I have a Superglide also. I have only used it a couple times and too want to attach a pad lock just to be safe. Problem is, I cannot see where it would go with the hitch latched. Any one got a pic of were to look? I too like that snap lock sound and you can visually see the latch, but a lock would be even better.

Steve

Steve,

You can see the lock in place on the right side of this photo.

BTW the lock makes a good attach point for the breakaway switch cable.

Now who is strong enough to unlatch the handle with the pin weight of the trailer on it. I don't think it is possible.

fivecody's is right on!

35 years tractor trailer and never dropped one.
You still can't beat the "LOOK" at the king pin.
the pull test is great insurance.
I some times drag the 5er about 5-10 feet.

I have never had trouble with the weight but if there is front to rear tension between the hitch and pin then it does not move.

The trailer weight has to be on the Superglide in order to release the spring/handle. My wife, who can barely reach over the side rails can release the handle with no problem. That's why I like a padlock.

I also use a Red mark on the hitch jaw. It works awesome for knowing if the jaw is fully closed. Good or bad I've never did a pull test with my Pullrite hitchs. It's locked or it's not. Other hitchs I've had I did do pull tests.

As long as there is no forward pressure on the hitch, the release pulls easily. The FW weight has nothing to do with the release.
I put a lock thru' the oval opening and this prevents the release lever from opening.
After unhitching and in storage,I use the same lock with a steel collar around the kingpin to prevent anyone 'hitching up' and stealing the FW

Can you spell Bedsaver? This is the best insurance for the potential mistake.
