In April of this year, for our 34th anniversary, my husband and I got a 14 month old orange and white kitty from a cat rescue organization instead of him buying me another piece of jewelry that I neither want or need. I found her on petfinder.com and we went to PetsMart to get her on a Saturday morning. We had been "kitty-less" for over 3 years, since our Bailey died of cancer at 13.

She's really sweet and I know she likes us. She sticks to me like glue and is always on the breakfast bar while I'm in the kitchen or on my desk right in front of me while I'm working. My dilemma is that she doesn't nuzzle us. I've never had a cat that doesn't nuzzle. Do you think that it's because she was born and raised in rescue? She purrs alot, but no nuzzling. Thoughts?

Here are some pictures of our new addition:

What a cutie!! Thanks for rescuing her!

Out of the dozen or so cats I've had over the years, I've had several very loving babies that didn't nuzzle. Matter of fact, I've had more that didn't than did, right now out three only one is a nuzzler.

Enjoy your kitty, she may decide to nuzzle but if not... well that's OK, too.

Cat, do you think it's something they can learn? We snuggle her all the time and try to show her how it's done.

When cats rub their head on you... is that what you consider nuzzling? Along with a hug kinda posture that's what I would call it. She might learn to do it, if she realizes it makes you happy or if she feels like she needs to claim you. I read somewhere that when a cat rubs their head on your head they are "claiming" you as theirs. Some cats may already feel like we belong to them and don't see the need to nuzzle. They can be sort of independent, don't ya know?

What a cutie! Bless you and your husband for rescuing her! It's very interesting that she doesn't nuzzle.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I just never thought about it in the past. I just assumed it was something all cats do. No big deal, as she's really, really sweet in other ways and we just love her to pieces. My husband is completely smitten with her!

We got two kittens from the humane society 1 1/2 years ago. One is a snuggler, the other isn't. UNLESS we have them outside, the "non-snuggler" always comes up to us and cuddles in. He's not scared, just happy we let him outside (we chaperone them to make sure nothing happens to them). I think cats are just like people.....some people hug, others don't.

I thought when dogs and cats did that they were marking you with their scent. Perhaps she needs a little more time to make you hers.
