You have a green light from the doctor. If the foot wrapped, it should be fine. The discomfort might slow him down, anyway.

Would you rather he be sitting around the campfire making smores or sitting in front of the TV,
Maybe he could fish rather than swim, and I think if there is a bacterial thingy going on nobody should be swimming Just my opinion,
With that kind of injury he would still be able to ride a bike, play board games or cards. I would not cancel.

I wouldn't care if it were a broken leg, i'd rather sit around camp doing nothing than sit at home doing nothing...

Go! Cards at the picnic table and s'mores by the fire are WAY better than home!

Did the doc give him a Tetanus shot?( is that close?) If so. Serious infection is being fought. Take him. Don't make him stay at home. The other people in your group are going to frett, and fawn over him anyway, and they will make sure the "injured boy" will have fun. He mat enjoy being treated speciall by them.

I broke my big toe and split it wide open 3 days before I got married. I limped down the aisle and stayed out of the ocean on my honeymoon. Now that I look back, I should have gone camping instead. Seriously, keep it clean and do as the doctor advised. He'll live and have plenty of good memories later in life.

Throw a life jacket and an old pair of tennis shoes on him to protect his toe from bumping. The jacket will compensate for the shoe weight and let him at least float about and be with friends. The shoe can be trimmed with scissors to allow more room and simply tie them only on the top few holes to hold the shoe in place. Find some old crutches at the goodwill store and get out of the way. He will find a way. I come from a family of 6 boys. Blood, barf, or broken bones was rarely an excuse to stay out of the fray.
