We are planning on heading south for the winter and want to know if we can use our outside shower on the BLM land. We are experienced dry campers and just looking to save room in the tank?

You will get a lot of opinions. LTVA Rules

Dumping
Do not dump sewage, gray water, or garbage on the ground. This includes motor oil and any other waste products.
Federal, State, and county sanitation laws and county ordinance specifically prohibit these practices. Sanitary dump
station locations are shown in the LTVA brochure. You must have an LTVA permit for dumping within all LTVA
campgrounds.

I don't know if you're SUPPOSED to do it, but I've seen lots of folks with outside showers.

Thank you!
This was the info I was seeking.
We want to leave as little a footprint as possible, so either less showers or more stops at the dump.
You guys are great

Baby wipes save a lot of water. Also, you can 'buy' a shower at the big laundromat across from Roadrunner Grocery on the main drag.

Hmmm, I have heard that some who go to the "hippie" Burning Man event here in Nevada recycle their shower gray water somehow. Maybe you can Google it.

There are rules and then there are ways to be sensible. Outside showers are not a problem, but I wouldn't do it right in front of the host (if there's one on site).

Hi Ya, 1st off it's not a "Hippie" event. It's much more than that. The Press labeled it as such many years ago when they didn't know who to describe Burning Man, but no big deal.
On to the Grey Water issue.
Many different ways we deal with it while on the BLM land. I use a 10 mil sheet of visqune, 12v bilge pump, 4' round plywood disk, hardware cloth.
I then Place the disk on top of the hardware cloth making a cage. The disk has a hole in the center for the pump to allow the grey water to cascade over the disk and down the hardware cloth allowing it to evaporate. I get rid of 25-30 gallons a day running about 6-7 hours in the heat of the day. Solar panel to re charge the battery.
Other use terry cloth towels (old ones) and rig up a way to wet the towels and hang during the day. Works really well. Add bleach if needed for smell control.
FYI, in all the years of holding the event on the Black Rock Desert, Burning Man has never failed a post event inspection from the BLM. Burning Man is a LNT ( leave No trace) event. They pride themselves in leaving the Playa cleaner than when they got there.
Any questions, please ask..... Dave
