I believe that the temperature is factory preset and is not user adjustable on these heaters. My guess on the temperature would be about 120 degrees. Higher temperatures can scald skin.

120* is safer, but there set much higher than that, I dont know how hot, but you cant hold you hand under the hot.
And they are factory set, and not adjustable.

140 degrees for the thermostat and 180 for the high-limit safety should the thermostat fail.

If this works, this might help you with the replacement.

I had an adjustable one. It quit now I'm looking for a new one. I would like one with a 110* to 150* with 10* differential. They are available but I need to find to find where.

thank you--a question i had never asked. wondered how i could turn it down as it seems SO HOT i wouldn't just leave it on. why is it routinely set so high? my home water heater isn't set that high.

Mine is way too hot also.
The only reason that I can think of is that with really hot water, when you add cold to cool it to a usable temperature, it stretches the hot water supply.

I found that by turning the HWH on for a few minutes and then turning it off just before starting a shower, the temperature is just about right with a little blend from the cold water side.

Of course thats when using the NAVY shower method while dry camping.

If left on until the thermostat kicks in, My unit could boil shrimp.

Always wondered why Atwood & Suburban never put a adjustable thermostat on these units. Only real reason I could figure is that with only a 6 gallon (& 10 on larger units) you need hotter water to start to stretch during use.

i'm certainly feeling better about the consensus on hot water temps, knowing mine is not the exception, but the rule. therefore, may i also assume these atwood/suburban units (mine is an atwood) are specifically made to withstand those unusually high temps--and the hot water lines as well? or is it merely another example of observable built-in obsolescence in action?
