I have a Fleetwood Niagara (06), with the hardwalled potty shower, and the residential style toilet. My unit has a blackwater holding tank (9 gal), but no greywater tank (07 to present now have them on this model). Not a big deal to hook up a Barker blue tote for greywater collection and blackwater too if not on a sewer site.

The amenities are similiar to those of a travel trailer (AC, furnace, range/oven, microwave, 3 way fridge). The size of the 3 way fridge is a bit larger in the newer Niagara's (mine is 3.7 c/f, and I think they are up to 4.1 c/f now).

This is my first season with a PUP after selling our 30 foot HTT. I personally miss the HTT. Keeping in mind I made quite a step down to a very small PUP with no toilet or fridge and a small dinette and cold water only sink. Maybe I downsized too much. Severe weather is a horrible in the PUP with a young family. We just returned from a trip and we spent a few hours of early Saturday morning- as in 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. - huddled in the truck waiting out some nasty lightning and rainstorms. Also, I am sick of setting up and take down already. We try to get out friday and return home Sundays for quick get-aways and I just think between set-up, Friday evening is shot and to be out by checkout, Sunday morning is shot. With a HTT the beds, kitchen, bath etc. are very much ready for business. I could level the rig, hook-up power ( which I still have to do with the PUP) and relax a bit on Friday. I REALLY miss having my own toilet and bath/shower. Our two last trips have been to places with terrible bath/shower facilities.

I will say I like getting 17 mpg towing the PUP as opposed to 10 towing a large TT. Also the PUP is a snap to pull with my pick-up truck and backing it up is also very easy compared to a 30 foot.

We are going to stay with the PUP for a bit, but will definetely go back to a small TT, say 19-23 foot.I understand your disappointment with the quality of many of the TT out there. The manufacturers are really pushing out some junk now. We had a 2005 and it was very poorly built.

All the above is just my honest opinion and experience of doing what you are thinking of doing.I really thought we would love the PUP, but so far it has been sort of just okay. I know there are alot of people who love their PUP. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Our PUP has a blackwater holding tank and a greywater holding tank. When we camp without hookups, we occasionally have to drain them into a portable waste water tank, which we then either tow to the dumping station and empty, or empty into a pit toilet/vault. It's no big deal! The waste water tank has wheels and a handy tow bar that hooks to the hitch.

What is the consensus on the 08 Jayco Select 14HW? Is it a good unit? I found one online for sale at half price for $9995. Is that a good deal for this unit? I think they make a 12HW as well, but when I go on Jayco's website I cannot see any floorplan other than the 14HW.

The 12 HW was discontinued and replaced by the 14HW.

Yet another convert, i had 2 popups, then 2 bigger campers, the last one being a 23 Hybrid. I just stepped down to a Coleman popup with King beds and no slides, and it's just as big inside as my Hybrid. The only thing i dislike is the tiny kitchen/counter space compared to a hard side TT, but that's easily made up by being able to tow at 70-75 and get 15 MPG.

Good luck, i strongly recommend downsizing as it's not likely that the price of gas is going to go down!

$9995 for a 14HW sounds like a really good deal.

Almost too good to believe, right? It is through RVdirect.com. I just got an email confirming that is the out-the-door price. I wish it were closer to me though as I am in MA,and they are in Albany,NY. Not super far away, but not close enough by that I can go have a look to see if we like it.
