I purchased the 10 year permit just before Christmas 2005. I don't believe I got any paper work back as I departed in January 2006. If I did I have lost it. I was one of the first to be required to pay for ten years and there was lots of confusion among the Mexican border officials at that time.
I plan to re-enter Mexico this winter. Will this be a problem? I'm not even sure anyone got papers back.
I will appreciate any assistance or advice.

You definitely received paperwork with your permit. Cannot help you beyond that.

Hi Ed,
I got mine December 1st, 2005. What has happened since then is, we stop at the border, we get our FM-T's, DW then joins another line for the importation of our towed car, and I get to clean the windshield of the motorhome, and wait. Somewhere in there we pay for our FM-T's together.
If you still have the same rig, with the hologram you bought attached, you should be good to go. Once into Mexico, beyond the border, we have never been asked for paperwork, nor even seen glances toward hologram sticker. That would change I am sure, if we had an accident. If you have the hologram you have already paid for temporary importation of the unit.

Ed, by your post it seems you think you receive paperwork for your Motorhome when you leave Mexico. You do not, hence the idea of the 10 year permit. It would be nice if they would give you a 10 year permit on the TOAD also. But this is Mexico after all.
You only get the paperwork for the permit as you enter and purchase the permit. That you would keep in the motorhome at all times. When your 10 years is up or if you decide to surrender it earlier than that, you would turn in the permit paperwork and the sticker from the windshield and at that point you will get a computer printout stating the Year, Month, Day that you turn the sticker in. If you have a permit for your TOAD, then you would need to turn it in before you left Mexico as it is only good for 6 months. You would turn in your FMT at that time also if you had one, which you should unless you have a FM3. Hope this helps you out.

We managed to lose Out Paperwork as well , which hasn't been a problem the last 2 Trips! I Was considering buying a Newer Unit so thought I would turn in the Hologram last Spring, but since I Couldn't produce the Paperwork the Mexican Border Ladies told Me I could Not do so! Then One of them ran My Passport and informed Me that I Had nothing to worry about as They Had No Record of My having Imported Any Vehicles! I was told Just throw the Hologram in the Basura!
What happens ,is that If You are a Canadian and Renew( NO SUCH THING IN CANADA) Your Passport ( You are issued a New Number). This means that any records on You Vanish at least as far as Mexico is concerned!
We ended up Keeping Windy so will be using Our Hologram once again this winter!

Thanks to all who responded. I will just return to Mexico and hope I don't find that one official who is looking for trouble.

Though the Passport number record may be gone, you can be assured that the VIN number of the motorhome will still be in their system. A subsequent purchaser trying to bring it in could have a problem.
Also, re being checked; earlier this year while in Zihuatanejo for three months I was stopped (driving the toad)at a routine check at the start of the La Ropa road, (a Mexican registered vehicle was being checked just ahead of me)and the police checked the hologram, the temporary permit paperwork, comparing dates and signatures, my driver licence and the vehicle registration. He asked for my tourist card, and when told that is was with my passport in the motorhome at El Manglar he said OK and waved me on. Only time in 6 years and 100,000 kilometers that I have seen it checked.

Now that EdT got his question answered. Here's my question. I too was given the 10 year hologram when I went in Dec, 2006 - wasn't given any choice actually. When I left, it was with the intention of coming back the next winter. As happens in life, things change. Not only could I not return to MX, I ended up selling the RV. Since I am in North Dakota... a quick run to the border to return the hologram wasn't exactly possible.
I carefully removed the hologram (with the help of tape) and have the paperwork from the border... and the bill of sale from the RV. If I head down to MX again in the next couple of years with a vehicle, am I going to be able to cross with this? Or do I need to find a Mexican Consulate in the US to do this? (Phoenix? Tucson?)
Has anyone done this yet?
And BTW, I had just renewed my passport before I went...

There is a lot of speculation this year about the ramification of a 1 January, 2009 provision of N.A.F.T.A.
The accord clearly specifies that there will no longer be a restriction on "any" used motor vehicle entering Mexico. This is not to say that they will not be controlled with a SAT permit, but I believe that it means that eligible folks can import (pay import duty) on any vehicle with no maximum age limit. This may or may not change the car bonding process (who knows?)
Has anyone out there managed to get a 10-year permit on a pickup truck with cab over camper?

This happened to us. You cannot get past the border with what you have, and a consulate will not be able to help you. We have tried both. In our case, since there were two of us, we simply registered the new MH in the other spouse's name.
We were given a form to send with all the necessary papers to D.F. to cancel the hologram, and they say it can take up to 8 months or longer to get it done. However, we have been told that if you have proof that you have sent everything and are in a holding pattern, they will honor that.
We were given the papers at a consulate to take care of it, and we were also given papers at KM 21 in Nogales. I think I read on here somewhere that they are also available on-line. Maybe someone can jump in and tell you where the site is. Good luck.
