I'll be fulltiming with two cats and am interested in getting a self-cleaning litterbox but have never tried one. Has anyone here used one in an RV? If so, how did you like it? Do they drain much electricity when not in use? Thanks for any advice.

A good friend (with cats) bought one. She had three cats at the time. Two of her cats would used it but one cat would not go near it. Never knew why it would not use it but the cat started to go in other places around her house untill she put a regular litter box back down. Those three cats have passed on now and she has two new kittens. One uses the auto box and the other uses the old box....She is afaid to put out only one after the first problems so she don't know if it is just a case of this is mine and that is yours or if they would have problems with just the auto one. Just somthing to think about.

We had one for a short period. Milo, the Siamese queen, took me aside and advised me that if I did not get that thing out of her house she was going to sell and move and we would be out on the street.

We have one in the house (haven't tried it in the RV since Dawg stays home) We don't like it. It's noisy and doesn't do a very good job, frequently gets clogged up, and it's a PITA to clean it or to change the collection trays. These days it's turned off and just used as a regular litter box and scooped manually. In my opinion, it sure wasn't worth the $100 we spent on it.
My son and his wife had the same opinion of the automatic litter box that they purchased for thier kitty.

I was afraid they were too good to be true. You just saved me $100 and a carpet cleaning bill. I appreciate the replies.

I have the best solution for you....let your spouse clean it - that's what I do! Since Barney claims Bill as HIS, then Bill gets the privilege....dogs have friends, cats have staff.
We love our new mod: We put a kitty door in the wall thru to the underneath storage and Big Barn Cat waddles thru and does his business out of site, out of mind. Bill cleans it every 2 days and we have no smell, no litter on the floor, plus extra room for guests or other stuff. We have a screen over the door opening to the outside so he lays there and cks. out the world. We also put food and water thru to him. He loves it.
