Christine, you have a great memory! We've had many changes over the last 2 years in our family and 2006/2007 was a test of our mettle; we lost Rocky (2/06), Sadie (5/07), and Sasha (9/07). Each loss brought many tears but we took some comfort in knowing they lived long full lives....but Bailey (11/06) will forever hold a special place in our hearts b/c he passed away so young and suddenly. Despite our best efforts to save him within 2 days IMHA claimed our boy.

Currently we're fighting another battle with Teddy (Bailey's brother/litter mate), who at age 5 was diagnosed as diabetic. This May we learned he also has lymphoma, which according to several vets is rather rare to have both of these diseases together. With the help from some fantastic vets and strength from God Teddy's in remission and we take each day as a gift.

In the meantime we've adopted 3 young fellows who've worked overtime to bring laughter back into our home. Neither disease has stopped Teddy's love of hitting the road (a true road dog if there ever was one!). This year they chilled out in the Florida Keys (beware of those furious key lobsters!, LOL)

Just something to think about from someone who has done quite a bit of volunteer work for several rescue groups - kittens, puppies, young cats and young dogs are the first to be adopted from shelters and rescue groups.

Please don't just pass by the more mature animals, especially those 5 yrs and up. They, too, can bring so much joy and love to our lives, and they are most often the ones who will languish in a shelter or the first to be put to sleep when there is no more room. The older animals I've fostered and placed (and those that I have adopted over the years) seem so appreciative of a second chance for a good life.

Please, take the time to look at all the animals, regardless of age. You will find the one, be it a kitten or an adult, that is right for you.

(light bulb goes off over my head.....great idea time!) You could always adopt 2

Of course i'd never rule out a grown cat needing a home. However, with kids in the house they do want the little kitten again - so that will be hard to talk them out of that. I would prefer a grown cat myself as it would be easier to train with the "do's and dont's" of our house.

I also understand that you have a 5th wheel now?

I know I could adopt 2 but...

considering hubby grew up without animals.

He never camped or fished a day in his life till he met me.

He bought ME MY trailer.

He misses work because of MY wandering camping ways.

Because of a lawsuit we are no longer allowed to have a dog, any dog, as homeowners will not cover us any longer and we have a business to protect. He went through 3 years of pain, dealing with the insurance lawyer, not knowing what was going to happen in the end because of MY need for that dog.

and now recently with the cat and putting her down so unexpectedly and now some pretty decent vet bills.

One income to cover everything as I stay at home and am disabled. Can't collect disability 'cause I didn't work the past 10 years (guess raising kids doesn't count as "work") so no extra income to cover these extra expenses.

He's given up a LOT of HIS comfort zone to accomodate ME. That being the case, when he says ONE cat is enough, i'm more than willing to accomodate his ONE simple request.

Hey, you never know you might catch him in a mellow mood.

Where did you get those lobster jackets? If that is what they are. HOW CUTE!!! Course the doggies in them make them soooo cute!

Both of my cats were adults when I adopted them. If I'm lucky enough to outlive them (they are 10&11-I'm 52), I'll adopt an elder cat or two when these guys go to the bridge. Maybe one whose elderly owner passed away..they need homes and love too!
