Heh, I cheat all the time! Got a big ole bottle of charcoal lighter fluid in my wood box along with some of those little fire-starter logs .

A friend of ours uses road flares.

I prefer charcoal lighter myself... but have used coleman fuel in a pinch. Stand waaaay back when lighting!

I empty my hot used briquettes into the fire pit after dinner. No problem getting a fire started.

I start my fires with a propane torch. No kindling needed.
