Thanks everybody. Before I had a TT I tent camped, or camped out of the back of my truck, using coolers and at times it was difficult to keep it iced enough. My TT had a large double door refer. and that spoiled me. But the 8.5 mpg pulling it had to come to an end. I will enjoy getting back to more of a 'camping' way with a pop-up though. I will probably end up using a cooler and then transfer to the refer. when at camp and set up.
See you out there.
Be safe in your travels and always have fun.

When we had ours, we would have all the meats frozen etc and pack them in the fridge,(We never had fridge on when traveling, even the 12 volt option.) than pack the cooler with all the other goodies, drinks etc, and would have the cooler just inside the door. We used a smaller cooler for drinks in the TV.If we wanted to stop to make sandwiches and stuff, the cooler was easy to get to. When we got setup, the fridge in the PU was already cold and we would pack the rest of the stuff in it and start it up. We would still use the cooler for drinks only. Gotta keep the beer cold.
Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go Camping

You might want to invest in a couple of Coleman 5-day Extreme Coolers. They really do help keep ice for a much longer period of time. We had to add one bag of ice to each cooler on a 4-day trip when the temperatures ranged from 96 to 99 degrees during the day and stayed in the upper 70s and low 80s at night. Not bad! With our old coolers, we would have added one or two bags to each one each day. We use two smaller coolers (52-quart) as opposed to one larger one. We keep sodas/beer/drinking water in one with food and other perishables in the other. We usually have to add ice to the beverage cooler on a stay longer than 3 days but not to the one with the perishables.

We will pre-cool the fridge on AC for a couple of days prior to the trip, I have been opening up the pop up in the garage and packing it in there. Usually the night before the trip I put all the Frozen meats and Milk and stuff in the fridge, I try and pack it up as much as I can and then close up the pop up. In the TV we have another cooler which I keep drinks in along with any stuff I forgot to pack or picked up on the way out of town. On the road we have the Fridge on 12 volt power and it keeps everything nice and cold.

2006 Jayco 1007: With nothing else pre-loaded in the camper, I do have to lay on my side and load the fridge. It is almost directly across from the doorway, so it's about as convenient as they make them.
The only way you will have better access when the camper is folded down is to have it on the wall as the door, facing the doorway. No one makes them that way.
I start the fridge on gas the day before we leave, then load it up the day we leave, shove the bits and pieces in (including an ice cooler with drinks and things) and off we go.

The fridge has food. The coolers are full of ice and cold beverages of my choice. If the fridge is set to keep my drinks as cold as I like them then the lettuce and tomatoes freeze.
This is also why I have two fridges at home. One for drinks, set to almost freeeze, and the other for the rest of the stuff.

We bought one of those coolers that plug into a cigarette lighter, and when we got to our destination we plugged it into electric. No ice to worry about. They worked great. If no electric then the ice. The "small" frig that came in the PUP we used for storage. To much of a hassle to get too.

We were also spoiled by the TT. But after our first trip in our PUP I think it was easier to use a cooler instead of loading up the TT frig. No lugging everything out to the TT and putting it away and then lugging what was left back into the house and putting it away. When we had the TT my DH said that I would take everything but the kitchen sink. Which is probably true. But now I only take what we will use. IMO being organized is the key to enjoying camping in a PUP. Had our first PUP been like the one we have now I don't think we would have ever purchased a TT. I hope that you are as happy with your decision to leave the TT and go with a PUP as we are.

We have a Sun Valley and bought it especially for the location of fridge. (Just across aisle from door) I can crawl in and pack condiments, milk, and misc prepared foods in the camper. Then, meats go in a small cooler, drinks in a six day cooler and we're set. Okay - I'm short, 5'2", but DH can fit in just as easily as me.
