People are surprised after I unpack camping gear from the trailer that I pull with my Honda GoldWing.
The tent easily has enough room for 4 – 6 people, and that goes up first.
Outside the tent I have my patio tarp, and a folding chair (with drink holder) so I can sit and watch the newbies back in. For evening reading, I use my Coleman propane lantern hung on its 5-foot stand.
Inside my “canvas castle” are a queen size air mattress (its' function is similar to my Sleep Number bed at home), large pillow, and a very comfortable sleeping bag. The TV works quite well on either batteries or 110, as does the AM/FM radio, which I use to receive my SIRIUS programming. In the evenings, if it gets a little cool there is always my tent heater. I also have both florescent lighting and a spot light. The “bug zapper” is a little weak.
Am I missing something? I haven’t figured out yet how to set up my Lava Lamp.

You can see in my sig, I own a TT.
Guess what?? My 2 sons and I are planning a little overnighter tomorrow night in our little 3 man dome tent! We are going down to one of our favorite fishing spots for the last time before school starts up again.
Why you ask? Well it is silly to pull the trailer 100 miles for just one night, and I can get much better fuel mileage without it anyway. Also the weather is supposed to be nice and the nights cool for August (50s and low 60s), so we won't even miss the A/C, probably need good warm sleeping bags.
Getting my wife to go on the other hand, would require the TT most likely!
Don't get me wrong, I love having the comforts of the TT, but the boys and I aren't afraid to tent it and we have at least once each year for the last few years. Great way to bond with them, and enjoy nature IMHO.
Update: A nasty case of the pink eye has cancelled our trip tonight, but you can bet we will still probably take the tent out at least once this fall!!

I've found a very subtle difference between my RVing and my tent camping. I like getting outdoors in either case.
When I RV with my DW, I find that while I don't sleep any differently then when I'm home. We'll go to bed around 10:30pm and I'll wake up at 5am, do my start of the day business, then I'm outside with my coffee walking around the RV camp. We'll sit under the awning during the day, listening to the radio, reading a book, generally relaxing. We're not big TV watchers to begin with, but occasionally we'll put a DVD in and watch something or play a board game. Basically an outdoors vacation-style set up.
When I tent camp, typically with my son or the Scouts, we'll be up around a campfire until midnight or 1am and up around 8am. If there's few to no one else around, I'll pull my ukulele out and we'll sing folk or contemporary songs, tell ghost stories, maybe share some experiences that we've had in the past; just "guy time." If there's a brook or river nearby, we'll fish or swim. More of the "rugged, outdoor" experience. Like others, I have a good pad and sleeping bag that makes things comfortable, even on the damp, chilly mornings.
Now, that's not to say, I've not set up a campfire and played the uke on an RV trip, or listened to a radio or CD on a tent camp. It's just that the atmosphere is different between the two.
I enjoy both in their own, unique way.

And I continue to tent camp!

We started off tent camping and just kind of moved up the RV path to popup and then travel trailer. But it was all sort of a progression of just us, then kids, tents were impossible to keep bugs and mud out with little ones at the time, so that's when the popup became a lifesaver for me, then us getting older and wanting more comfort but still be able to get out to a campground and enjoy ourselves. I have friends who love to tent and roughing it in the weather no matter what it is. Wish I had their spunk, but now I have travel trailer spunk and still love going out! lol

I love both tent camping and RVing! Certainly my TT is cushy enough; indeed, I don't even have to leave my trailer if I don't want to. But what would be the point of that? I no longer tent camp due to health issues, but if I could I'd do it in a heartbeat. I love being outdoors--the smells, the sounds, the shadows. I have to work a bit harder now to get that same feeling, but as long as I have breath in my body I'll be out there camping one way or the other.

I love tent camping but finally broke down and bought the 26 foot RV. It is great on rainy days and my wife likes the bathroom and kitchen. However, I love to sleep out in the fresh air - on the ground - next to a river and/or under the trees. I also like to wake up in the middle of the night and see the stars. So I am not afraid to set up the tent and sleep in it - and the wife will inevitably join me. We are the kids.

Depends on the type of camping we are doing if we are boondocking out in the desert the toyhauler is definitely coming cuz I want my bathroom and its usually just me and my boyfriend and the dirtbikes but for my annual family camping trip (the whole family) we use the toyhauler to bring the dirtbikes and pack all the tents and gear but bring enough tents for everyone to tent it. As much as I love my hauler I still sleep in the tent when we camp out in the woods during the summer cuz it is just amazing all the wonderful experiences you get in a tent. I think if my boyfriend had his way we wouldn't even bring the toyhauler out to the woods but its just the easiest way to carry all the gear we need so he deals with it.

I used to backpack and really got off on the idea that I camped in places that there was no other way to get to than my own two feet. I'm older now and although I still like the idea of being self-sufficient, I like the comfort and convenience of our slide-in camper.
I would still sleep out in a back-packing tent, in fact I did in May on a motorcycle camping trip with my two sons, but if I had to choose between between the big tents I think people are talking about here--big enough for cots and so forth--and my camper, I'd choose the camper everytime.
Besides, when I suggest tenting to my SO, I get a huge NO, so when I do tent camp, it's with my sons, with just the gear we can carry on our motorcycles (which isn't much more than one can carry on ones bsack).
