As a rear end shop, blowing spyders out of a "10 bolt" 1500 Chevy is VERY COMMON,they are very weak and once they get worn they break very easy, the 3/4 and 1 ton "corporate 14 bolt" in the Chevy is MUCH stronger and has very few problems.

I think this thread is getting a little off topic.
2005 Jayco 29BHS dragged by a 2002 F150 7700GVW w/4.10's running on clean burning Digital Propane injection. Or gasoline. If I'm feeling rich that day.
Yeah its old, and it wishes it was a Super Duty, but it beats makin' payments!

Good conversation guys.
Yeah, a bit off topic, but not a problem.
Back on the topic of towing my TT...
I just spoke to Gear Vendors about their overdrive unit.
It sounds nice to split the ratio between transmission gears and provide a lot more flexibility.
With their unit, my current 55mph in 2nd gear at 3700rmp could drop on the fly to 2900rpm with the push of a button. And this works for all gear combinations since it installs in the transmission tail.
Problem is price at $4K installed.
Does anyone have this Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive unit?
I am local to their shop so it is a definite possibility.
Again, all comments are appreciated.

For 4K you could get a pretty sweet HD Towing Tranny for that price. As for lowering your RPM's, like others have stated, the 5.3 is at peak torque a lot higher than 3K. To me it would make your engine lug and have to work harder when not in its peak torque range. I could be mistaken though.

The Cummins diesels have tons of torque at very low RPMs for mountain climbing.

I used to have one of their units on my Snap-on truck; it had 5.29 gears and was maxed out at just over 50 mph on the highway without it. It did the job on that application, giving me lots of gear ratio to get the (heavy!) truck moving around town and made it bearable on the highway. That said I believe it is kind of going the opposite way from what you need unless you do the gears too... the reason your trans is downshifting is because it senses too much load for the gear it is in and the rpm it is at. Splitting your ratio will make the problem worse unless you have a very high final drive (rear end gear) in which case it would give you more options down low and still a decent cruise rpm when cruising under a more comfortable load, such as unloaded or with the wind down a hill. The reality of your situation are (not to sound like a broken record) that you have a few options
1. keep what you have got and accept that you will need to slow down
2. change the gears to a numerically higher ratio (which will also require some form of an electronic recalibration of your speedo; an Edge programmer would be a good way to do this) and accept that your cruise rpm on the highway, unloaded or not, all year long, will be higher than it is now
3. spend the money on the gears AND the gear splitter (not sure on the speedo recal on this one)
4. buy a different tow vehicle (considering once again how many times per year you will be towing)
