Looking to go to this area in October and need recommendations on which area is better to stay in with a 7 year old and 4 year old. Would like to go to Ghost Town in the Sky and other attractions. Also, would like rv park suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

The KOA in cherokee had alot of childrens activities from a large playground, indoor and outdoor pools, and Ravens Fork River for trout fishing. We stayed there two years ago and had a great time.
Most roads in the KOA are paved, with concrete sites (we had a pull through in the premium section) and that site was pretty big.
It is just through the town area of Cherokee, past the casino. We had a good time, but it was not cheap.

We have stayed at Stonebridge RV Park in Maggie Valley, and the Ghost Town in the Sky is just down the highway from there. This is a really nice park, with a pool, but not a lot of children's activities. We like Maggie Valley because it's a really quiet area.
Our last trip there in April, we drove to Cherokee and saw the KOA that the other poster mentioned and it looked really nice, plus there are a lot of things to do and see in Cherokee. I think if we had young children, that would be our choice.
October is an excellent time to go because of the cooler weather and the beautiful colors of trees, etc. Hope you have a super time.

Look at Happy Holiday. It is in Cherokee, but on the Maggie side, on the road to Ghost Town. Just over the mnountain.
Personally. The Cherokee KOA is too expensive, and on the other side. The CGs in Maggie Valley don't allow campfires, and in OCT you will want one. Happy holiday is also neer Santa Land.
But our favorite CG in the area is Holly Cove. Out on the Smoky Mountain Freeway.

Happy Holiday for us. From tent camping 30 years ago,to fall of last year, still a nice place. Easy ride across mountain to "Myrtle Beach," oops, I mean Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge. KOA seemed to be out of the way and too expensive, had to copy license to ride through. Go over mountain to Maggie Valley to eat at the steak house on the right. Senior moment, forgot name.

We have been to Cherokee twice, and both times at Happy Holiday. From the front desk to the sites, to the restrooms, everything was really super. There is a shuttle to Cherokee and overall we consider it to be one of the best campgrounds we have visited.

Steak house is called J. Arthurs. Great food and good service. Just remember that most of the pools are winterized about October 1 , but there is still a lot to see and do. Just north of Pride Resort on US 276 you can ride up a windy narrow road to see the elk that were introduced back into the Cataloochee Valley. Kids would like the outdoor stuff and you can pick your own apples that time of year.

We will be down that way the 3rd week in October staying in Maggie Valley area at Pride Resort. We have a pup and like to cook on the fire and the owner set us up on the water and not far from one of their fire pits. Since most are staying in the big boys, they wont need the pit for meals (hopefully lol) she didnt have any problem with us using it for cooking etc. Hoping to go see the elk, I heard they are amazing and lots of waterfalls in the maggie valley area as well!
