I too think the KOA in Cherokee is really over priced. We normally stay in the Maggie Valley area.

We have stayed at Stonebridge in Maggie Valley, it's OK.

Pride Resort is just outside of Maggie Valley but is really nice CG and plenty for kids to do (putt putt, pool, lawn golf, playground).

We just left Cherokee KOA and really liked it with 3 small kids. The entire campground was paved for great bike riding. Entire campground had great views. Sites were large and spacious. There is plenty for kids plus indoor and outdoor pools. Kids swam every night until 10pm. There was movies every other night, breakfast(very good) in the morning and dinners on weekends. It is right on a river for tubing but river is low right now. It is also 5 minutes to entrance to Smokey Mnt and Blue Ridge Parkway. Santa Land/Casino was 10 minutes away and Ghost Land was about 30 minutes. We also checked out Yogi and were not impressed as it looked run down and it was a mud pit after recent rain. We were really happy with KOA and would stay again. It is pricey but the kids had a great time and were never bored and that is what matters.
