i love the idea about this kind of tent. however i am worried that i might find problems about where it will set up as compared to where the van will be.
do most sites have it where the van can pull to where the tent would be set up?
.
At first blush the thought was 'what problems?'..then the reality of them not wanting tents in 'other than where they want them area' set in. You are wise to check...I think I do have a solution for pitching in many of them though. bring pegs and rope enough to tie down the tent by putting pegs out far enough to be off the asphalt and back the truck up to it in the drive. many times you would be able to pitch it next to the drive and not worry ...but it may be that the area around the drive would be unsuitable ...low ground etc.making it impossible to attached tent and truck. Of course it would just mean you had to go outside to go to bed...not the end of the world...inconvenient ...yes.

eaglesfly,
Is it out of the question to rent an RV for that trip? Seems to me that you want solid walls and climate control. A small motorhome would meet both of those needs; and then some.

yes, i am actually thinking about an rv rental also. since this particular trip i am searching/planning for isn't til summer of 09 and i just want to make sure i have everything i need and want and that i have thought everything out before making such a trip.
i do appreciate everyone's input/advice and suggestions, as some i have not even thought of.
i want to make sure we are safe and if need be i want to beable to cool off. i will be 51 when making this trip, with a 10 yr old son. i don't mind being outside or in tents/screen rooms/parks all day long. but come evening and bed time, i certainly do want more solid walls and like said previously coolness if needed.
i hope i am not bothering you all with all my questions. i do sometimes overplan, but i like knowing my i's are dotted and my t's are crossed. and i don't want my fears do stop me from traveling and bringing my son.
thank you all so much for everything.

Probably much better and faster than my wife and I. I seem to recall an instructional video link on their website.
