Guess this thread should go under "Lifestyles" since motorcycling is part of many people's lifestyle. What would be the best MC for a fulltimer? Mind you just one rider. I've got a Honda Big Ruckus 250CC which is fun, small, light but still goes up to 70MPH. A Honda VTX1800 for pleasure riding heavy and fast. When I combine them I come out with one of the dualsport 650's that weigh in at less than 400 and have nice road manners. Any other bikers out there with an opinion?

Pick the bike that you are comfortable on and that your RV has the capability of hauling. Have fun.

I bought my first ever motorcycle in March. Yamaha WR250R dual sport.

I like it.

I am 6 foot even and weigh 220. My inseam is 30 inches. I found the seat to be a little high. As a new rider I like being able to put both feet on the ground at stop lights, even when I have MX boots on. The factory settings will allow you to drop both the front and rear almost an inch. I want it a little lower, so I bought a YamaLink lowering link that should drop the rear another inch. I have not yet installed the lowering link.

I have learned a lot about motorcycles at www.thumpertalk.com forums.

I ride fire roads when we go camping and I ride it to work. It gets about 80 mpg. I don't know how fast it can go, after 85 I got scared.

Fuel injected is nice.

The best one to have is the one that serves the purpose that you need it to do.

Do you need a putter around scooter to explore the paved roads in a state/national park? Or a boondocking offroad machine to find out what's over the next ridge? Maybe just a toy or something to make grocery store runs on. Many people can get along with a small to mid size scooter. Others need a full size motorcycle.

Of course there is the occasional oddball fulltimer like me that needs a R1200GSA. It's a lot more motorcycle than most people would ever need however it fits the purpose for what I need a motorcycle to do.

Don't forget to wear your crash gear. ATGATT

Hang on to the Ruckus! I read that Honda has discontinued the Big Ruckus, before I had a chance to buy one :-(

We went full-time RVing mainly because of our motorcycles. "So many roads, so little time!!" We have two 800 pound street motorcycles. We have to have a motorcycle with hard lockable saddlebags. Not only to lock up our gear, but to haul our groceries and other stuff. We have taken our motorcycles on roads that,,,,well really were not roads. Example. One road??? had grass growing down the middle of it. Yeah a dual sport motorcycle might have been better for some of the sand roads in Arizona, but we like the cruiser style of our motorcycles. Windshield, floorboards, hard saddlebags. Fuel injection is a must for the wife since she forgets to push in the choke.

I don't ride, but DH absolutely LOVES his KLR650--in fact, traded his '99 for a new '08 model. He's a big guy, likes the versatility of a "big" dual sport bike that's equally comfortable on the highways, forest service roads and off-road trails. But it all boils down to how and where you like to ride--just as there's no "one size fits all" RV, there are lots of choices in bikes.
