I don't know if anybody was watching this tonight, but France was an overwhelming favorite to win the 400m men's relay at the Olympics. I love all of the swimming events (of course the greatest swimmer of all is Michael Phelps of the University of Michigan), but this event had lots of pre-race drama with the French team being quoted in the papers the day before as saying that they were going "to smash the Americans".

Well, I just watched one of the greatest final legs of any relay I've ever seen. Jason Lezak came from way back to beat the world record holder at the wire and give the US team probably it's greatest gold medal relay victory ever. I literally could not believe Lezak could catch Bernard, but he ran him down!!

I must have looked like a nut jumping up and down in my living room all by myself, but man was that great.

GO USA!!!

THanks a bunch - I was checking here and watching the Olympics at the same time - just as the event was about to start you posted the result!

SHEESH Thanks a lot. I wish folks would think about time zones before they post the results to sporting events.

If you looked like an idiot, than so did I and my friend, cuz we were doing the same thing! Only thing was that we were also screaming our fool heads off! That was spectacular! I LOVED watching the replays of Phelps watching it all unfold! The sheer joy on his face and his teammates was just amazing.

I'm still smiling this morning! I too was jumping up and down in front of the TV last night. The dogs must have thought I'd gone crazy! I must admit that I felt sorry for the other three members of the French team, but not for the loudmouth. It was truly priceless to watch Lezak swim that last leg of the race. Congratulations to all four members of the team.

As far as time zones go--it is a 13 hour difference from Beijing to the central U.S. You can have any of the events spoiled by the evening news. Just do as I do and don't click on any "spoiler links" or listen to the sports section on the news.

Yes, I too was amazed and yelling at the TV like I could help him get there quicker. LOL One of the best races ever!

Posters: PLEASE remember the time zones and avoid giving the outcomes away in your Post Title for those of us on the Left Coast. Goes for the Olympics and all TV shows too. Let us suffer the stress and excitment of those endings too. I can choose not to open one with a generic title but the ending in the title..................once I've read the title, too late. THANKS in advance!

I did not hang in there and I'm so mad at myself! I went to bed just after 11 Eastern time and that was a big mistake. Great watching the replays, though! I would have been among the yellers

We watched the race last night as well. My DH and DS were yelling like crazy. It was amazing! I have to add: Cullen Jones, the African American on the team is from New Jersey.
