I am considering trying something different this year for deer season. I may pitch a tent and leave it pitched for 6-8 weeks on my property. If this was done would canvas or a nylon type material stand up better? Is this something I should even consider? The only tents I have seen left up are at the BSA scout camps we go to. Thanks for any input Mac

A cheap dome or cabin tent from Walmart or Big 5 will last a couple of seasons at least, running around $60.00 or less. 10x10 would be just about right! They have a 13x10 Ozark Trails right now for $49.95.

Whats the temp where you will camp and what type of tent? I use 2 different tents a Coleman 12X10 and old Sears Hillary 8X10 canvas. I use a my buddy heater or a Coleman catalytic for heat but don't tent camp when it's below 25 degrees. The Coleman tent has mesh top so ventalation is no problem the canvas is much warmer but I have keep window open to vent. For long periods I would put ap a tarp or 2 to help insure everything stays dry. I have a camper with electricity for really cold camping, but a friend does as you and really enjoys it.

make a tent platform and get it up off the ground it will hold up better that way.they used to make platforms up here and frameing and throw those older style canvas wall tents over them, adding plywood over the roof frameing befor the tent went on they would hold up a good snow load, some used to put a small box wood stove in them for heat and cooking.there was a few that left them up all the time and changed the tent when needed.makes a cheap hunting camp.

Canvas duck will withstand sunlight better than a synthetic but at a considerable increase in expense. IMHO Sooperdooty is right. Get an inexpensive tent with a full coverage rain fly and replace it every 3 yrs or so. I also agree with the idea of putting it up on a deck

In the catalogs of various tent manufacturers and camping goods stores, I have increasingly seen the disclaimer that the nylon tents are not intended for continuous use, and are not guarenteed for damage from the sun's rays. This indicates thst canvas is by far a better choice. Canvas is what's used for boat covers, too, which are exposed to the sun throughout the season.

For our deer camp we use pallets with plywood on top of them to keep tents off the ground (also as walkways between campers, tents and firepit) and out of the mud. I still put a tarp underneath and a tarp inside as well.

Thanks. I like the pallet idea. I have not seen those disclaimers before, but now I will be looking for them. I am going to go for a Bass Pro tent and set it up on pallets/plywood.This will also allow me to level the tent. I too have a camper,a T/C, but the road into the property is very rough and very steep in places. I don't have the nerve to try it with the T/C on.
Thanks again Mac
