How would you rate their tolerance as far as no helmet or two on a quad? Wife likes to double with me and we would rather not wear helmets as we are just sight-seeing. Thanks.

For this reason is why I got my wife and I a rhino. When she wants to ride with me on trails we go in the rhino.

I've heard through someone that they were hassled recently on USFS roads by local rangers off of 108 for riding 2 up on a 2 up quad. They were told it's not allowed even though there's a 2 up sticker on the quad.

Anyone else hear this too?

I had no problems with two up on the Polaris X2 at Cisco Grove over the 4th.

However, Metcalf Park in San Jose has a single rider only policy because that is the way the count law is written. They are working on rewriting the county law that governs county parks.

Silly. I can carry a rider on the back of my Yamaha WR250R dual sport motorcycle, because there is a cheese had strap across the seat. But not on a big 2up ATV.

I knew someone would get it. We've looked at SXS's and are still kicking it around. Talking a Jeep also.

I rode off 108 up above the Marine Base the other day and didn't see a soul. I was one-up and had my helmet on too, dawg-gone it.

They enforce helmets, when you do see a ranger. I'm sure the Chippy would have also. Green sticker enforced as well. I'm not sure about 2 up... I'm sure a ranger would enforce. My original leniency statement was more toward riding on the highway (395 included) if not effecting the flow of traffic. Ride on the sides for short distance, or if you can ride highway speed, in the traffic lane seemed allowed... once again, only until you can get off onto a trail or dirt road.

We had my plated bike, a non plated bike and a quad on 395 north for 500' or so, moving across to the left hand turn lane, turning left though the median, and then back 500' south on 395... A CHP just happened to be going south as I entered the lht lane going north... with the other two directly behind me... he glanced, and kept right no going... not even a brake light. Very nice.

Back on topic, as far as riding, we hit the trails across the street from Sand Mountain, and do trails up Ice House road.

Thank-you, that is exactly the information I was looking for. I know there is a lot to see and do around there, and glad to hear the enforcement is fair and with common sense.

Have you tried PiPi yet, off 88? It is on my list of places to try. They have a few ATV trails. Mostly motorcycle only.

Near Bass Lake is the fire roads and Miami Creek ORV. Been on the fire roads. Have not yet been on the trails at Miami Creek, but did look around.

I think PiPi is all Moto only (aka Elkins Flat????) unless PiPi is actually Gold Note (all quad trails).
