just wondering if I have the break away cable hooked up the right way. It is threaded in the links of one of the safety chains and hooked to the last link before the hook that hooks to the hitch. It looks like it would only work if the safety chain stayed hooked to the truck and the other end broke free from the trailer. Is this right?
Also just wondering if while at a rv park if any one puts a lock on the tongue of their trailer so it doesn't get stolen while you go off to the Piggly Wiggly.

You are right on hooking it into the chain as the other end should pull out of the break-away-switch.
When I had 2 different TT's I always put a lock on the ball or tongue right after hooking up.
Now with the fiver I still put locks on things to keep them from walking away.
Good Luck & drive Safe!

The routing if your breakaway cable is not correct. It should not be run through the chains. In fact, the end of the cable should ideally attach to a point on the tow vehicle that is not connected to the hitch or receiver.

Mine is long, I run it thru both chains to take up the slack then attach it to a connection on my frame seperate from the hitch.

Correct answer above!

Take it out of the chain. Attach it to the tow vehicle, and not to the hitch or receiver. The length should be such that it will pull the pin while the safety chains are still connected.

Definitely attach the break away to the TV and not anything on the hitch or receiver. The cable should be long enough to make the attachment and still be able to flex with all the stretch when turning.
