Surprise! Nobody who tows with a PullRite TT hitch can ever attach the breakaway cable anywhere but the hitch. The ballmount can travel completely from one side of the truck to the other while in operation. No fixed point on the TV can ever be used for chains or breakaway cable.

Does anyone know anyone who had their trailer come off the hitch and had the the safety chains or the brake cable come into play? Just wondering?????

BTW there is an effect in crash reconstruction where the phrase "locked wheels lead". If you lock the rear wheels up it want to rotate to the front (hence "donuts"). I would not want to have my trailer brakes lock if the hitch failed but the chains held.

I believe you can extend the cable and attach it to the underside of the TV where the hitch attaches. kinda like how you would have to attach the 7-way wiring.

I have heard of the hitch but am not familar with it. How and where does the seven wire power cable attach that the breakaway cable cannot? Isn't the power cable at some fixed point on the tow vehicle?

I might be wrong, but from the pics I've seen the safety chains and also the 7 pin connector along with the breakaway cable are all attached to what we would consider our receiver. The pullrite has an arm attached close to the rear axle that is supported on a track and that arm might not be considered a receiver as such, but an extension of the TV itself and thus attaching those item to that is an exception to most of our common ideas of where to attach things. I'm sure pull-rite went thru some sort of certification of their hitch to meet all the various state requirements and obviously they have so this "RED HERRING" is just that in this somewhat unique case configuration.

BOTTOM LINE is to hook it up per the manufacturer's directions.

1) Yeah, had a small trailer come unhitched and whip pretty wildly, but safety chains held and I slowly came to a stop, rehooked the trailer and modified the latch so it would not happen again. No trailer brakes nor breakway cable in this case.

2) I think "locked wheels lead" does not really apply in the case of the trailer. Absolutely, I can lock the rear wheels of my car and it will try to make the rear lead, and if a semi locks the drive wheels, they tend to become the lead wheels, but I'm not seeing the physics that's going to make the trailer pass you if the trailer locks down and takes the slack out of your chains.

3) Sadly, I'm sure there's been more than one case of a dead or unhooked trailer battery or the breakawy not hooked up, and the trailer goes off and does it's own thing and kills someone.

I hook mine to the hitch pin and use the fastening pin on it to lock it on. It's not the frame but I'm short on things to hook to on the Tahoe. But I don't have it hooked to the shank. MIne is run through the chain links.
