DH has a Honda Silver Wing 600 cc scooter that weighs approx. 500 lbs. Does anyone have ideas/suggestions as to how we might safely mount something to the back of our 31' Prowler Lynx so we could bring his bike with us when we travel? Thanks in advance for any help.

From and engineering stand point, you are looking at a disaster waiting to happen. First, most trailers are are not framed to carry that much weight on the rear end. Next, the static load is only a portion of the load. The other issue is the dynamic load of that much weight hanging so far out from the back of the trailer....like a big pendulum.

Last issue is that 500# on the rear will reduce your tongue weight...you can ratio out the numbers, but your net reduction in tongue weigt will be a bit less than 500# plus the carrier.

You need to find a way to carry it in the bed of the truck, provided it has the payload capacity to carry that plus the trailer tongue weight.

The other optionis to get a toy-hauler trailer.

We haven't been RVing very long. I thought the same idea and saw something like these when we first started. I thought this is perfect, I can carry the bike on the back of the 5th wheel.

Well, the bike is an 800 lb Venture, and I started to think about it. I now agree entirely with TXiceman. This is a disaster in the making. I have learned now about GVWR, axle weighting and all the other weighting issues.

I'm going with a small bike trailer.

A friend from Texas just visited us. Normally he carries his bike in his toy hauler. But this trip, just him, his 3500 dodge diesel and the bike. Now, I'm not going to claim to know anything about weights and such, but, the bike was loaded on something similar to what Lucky linked to, but it hooked into the hitch on the truck, with another reciever hitch on the back side, so you could possibly hook a trailer to that. In other words it went between the truck and trailer. Another friend says she uses something similar(on a much smaller scale) for their bicycles. Would something like that work? I can ask him where he got it from.

I have seen those receiver haulers, and I believe most receivers are rated around 600lbs. So those wouldn't work for me. I think a smaller bike would be okay.

I kinda like the swivle trailer! Probably would not even have to unhook to back!

Regarding those swivel wheel trailers, you might want to send a Private Message to member JEBar. He has one and can advise you on whether they work as advertised.
