After reading some of the suggestions about what "extra" stuff to pack, I was under the impression that with chewing gum, bailing wire and duct tape, anything could be fixed.

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct tape.

If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40.
If it moves and it shouldn't use duct tape.

All tools are standard tools in my world. If I can't fix it, it's either not broken or it's too heavy to work on without a lift of some kind.

Stuff people usually don't think about that they consider non standard:

Extra wire
Adeqately long stick for positioning the jack stands. (Crawling underneath to put the jackstand in place is just eaten up with dangerous)
Air compressor
Soldering iron and solder
Box of assorted random screws, nuts, washers, zip ties, string, etc etc.

Then there's the obligatory flashlight and extra batteries/bulbs. If you don't carry that, something horrifically simple will stop you in your tracks exactly 30 minutes after sunset.

New items - Had 'em, just finding new uses today:

Welding rods. Got them to build a core for an electromagnet, but they work great for hauling in vent covers from indoors in high winds.

Bucket - cuz sooner or later, something WILL spring a leak. (See vent cover above)

Aluminum foil baking pans - same reason, except sometimes a bucket won't fit. Foil pans are whatever shape you say they are. (If you can't go out to fix it, you'd better be able to catch it and redirect to a harmless location until you can. Duct tape makes great sluices, if you do a little origami. In this case, drain hose for reefer.)

Batteries and fuses of every kind - I guarantee you've got some you've never seen before, and never will in the future - until they blow at the worst possible moment and you don't have one on hand.

Mighty Putty - Because there are just some things even duct tape or super glue can't do (I know - sheer heresy. But sadly true.)

- New applications courtesy of Tropical Storm Fay, still blowin' and goin' -
