We have always used Lewis and Lewis for all our Mexican vehicle insurance. We have a new Monaco MH that has very high value. I was surprised to learn that Qualitas does not write policies with values over $100,000. I did some heavy duty surfing and found some underwriters that do not cover over $65,000. Vagabundos will write a policy at $150,000. I did find one or two agents that will write higher limits BUT the policies were not very good and the rates were extremely high. Without getting into exact rates they were at least 60% higher than if you took a $100,000 rate and applied a multiplier equal to the increase in value. The rate I was quoted was almost $3000 for an annual policy. Some were even higher. Are there any on this board with MH's worth over $150,000? Where did you purchase your insurance? I see all kinds of high dollar units in our travels in Mexico. I wonder what they do for coverage? Unfortunately my Canadian insurance provider will not extend comprehensive coverage to Mexico.
Thanks

Moisheh, ours is insured over 150K but is insured with National Interstate, which offers Mexico coverage for an additional $5/yr. All we buy is liability through a Mexican agent. I don't know if National Interstate writes in Canada, but worth looking into.

We must clarify for any newbie who may read this and me. It is my understanding that there are USA insurance companies who will insure your rig to travel in Mexico, Comp only. BUT, Mexico does not recognize any USA insurance company so you are REQUIRED to have Mexico insurance from a Mexican Insurance Company. I believe this also includes Comp. (the policy a USA company could/would write) so, will you be able to get a repair to your rig if an accident is not you fault while in Mexico? Will your USA insurance company fight the fight for you in Mexico if the accident is not your fault and will the Mexican Government/Court honor your USA company in the fight? This makes be very nervous and is why I carry full Mexican Coverage at all times in Mexico. Help if you know the answer.

We have a high value policy that offers Mexican Insurance as an option. The company is American Modern Insurance Group. This link indicates they offer Mexican coverage in most states.
AMIG
So far we have had good service from them at a reasonable price.

Roadpilot, Thanks for the link. They offer Comp ONLY. Will they arrange for a repair in Mexico or is repair in USA only, where are their adjusters/agents in Mexico, will they fight the fight in Mexico and again will the Mexican Government/Court recognize them?

OK, here is the skinny on insurance. Mexico does not recognize any liability insurance from NOB. Your NOB policy will state that it provides coverage in Canada and the USA. However many USA companies do extend the comprehensive portion of their coverage to Mexico. BUT you must read the policy carefuly as some only cover border regions or a certain distance from the border. The cost for the Mexico coverage is usually a pittance. Some are $10.00. For instance Progressive will extend the coverage for $10.00 and this gives you the exact same coverage as in the USA. BUT NO LIABILITY coverage. Most will tow your vehicle NOB for repairs. A true no brainer. Rocmoc: I would sooner deal with my NOB provider than a Mexican insurance company. Many Mexican policies will not allow for repairs in the USA. Others will pay $35.00 an hour. Some of the premium policies pay $65. Still not very much. I do not know who any of them use for adjusters. I doubt they get involved in Mexican courts. The worst that could happen is you would have to pay your deductible. The court would have nothing to do with your comprehensive as it is not part of your liability, i.e liability pays for the other party. I also think that with the number of people using the Mexico coverage option the insurance companies may have to rethink that option.

This discussion is not about getting coverage from a USA company as that is not an option for Canadians.
