It is not just the kids. At the campground we are currently at both adults and kids think they own the place. They ride bikes and golf carts all over the place and don't care if you are in their way. They certainly aren't going to move. If you are in a car they won't even move to the side of the road! One rode right behind me as I was backing-up yesterday. The parents just stand there and stare at you. I know if my kid did that he certainly wouldn't be enjoying time on a bike anymore! I realize this is a "family" campground but that doesn't mean leave your brain at home! - Treasa

People in general just don't have common sense any more.

We were parked in our RV at a casino parking lot- designated for RVs.
Another RV pulls up next to us about 15ft away, then their friend comes and parks his pickup between the two of us. The parking lot was totally empty, by the way.
We had about 4 ft to move around.
I just ended up packing everything up and moving further away.

Try this "Ok, guys, thanks for playing. Time for you to go now!" Kids are used to being told what to do just tell them to leave in a confident voice and they'll scurry away! If they question you for why, just say "Our family has things to do now, so you need to go."

I make my kids recite my campground rules before getting out of the car! No walking in people's sites (I tell them to imagine walls around the edges of the whole site) No being loud after quiet time. No yelling in general. Never go into another campsite without an invitation, never go into another RV *EVER.* It's ok to say hello, even chit chat with neighbors but always stay where I can see you. Etc. I also make a point to at least catch the eye of our neighbors and tell them to please let me know if my kids are being too loud. So far, everyone has been very nice, said they enjoy watching kids play, mine aren't the loudest, etc. We've even even invited over for some marshmallows! I've also never had too much trouble with other people's kids or dogs. In one campground I had a huge problem with people just walking through to the bathroom which was baffling since the back of my site was a cliff! I specifically asked about it when I booked because it looked like a bad spot. The lady said "The site drops off in the back, no one will be walking there! They had to scale the hill to even get to my site to cut through it! It would have been easier to follow the road! Then they didn't so much as say hello as they walked between my trailer and the table and around my grill as I cooked dinner! Not kids though...these were grown ups! My kids were sitting there saying "Mom, but you said we should never do that!" We hung an impromptu 'clothes line' with rope along the back of the site making it more difficult to cut through and that seemed to work.

You're very responsible and other appreciate you for it. We always make sure our kids know the rules and follow them. They must respect others.

School!

At least we don't have to put up with the lack of parenting during the week, most of the time.

Oh, you're terrible...school means I can't go camping much, on accounts of I'm still in it!! ARGH!

Had a similar situation in June with a young boy around 6 yrs old. He would come and tell my kids what toys he wanted to play with and they had to obey because he was there guest. Obviously he was not their guest as they never invited him over etc...Will not get into details but there were family issues and we attempted to accomodate him as best we could. But I can tell you it was not easy at times.

As parents with lots of kids ourselved we attempt to point out that they should respect others property and should not come over and begin playing without permission. We also point out they should invited over....

We arrived at the campground around 6PM. We camp in a Pop Up so by the time we got set up and got the grill started it was getting close to 7. A young boy, age 7, who lives (?) at the campground comes by to play with our grandkids. No problem. When the brats and dogs are done this little boys says that he could sure eat a few hot dogs. When told he should go home and ask his mother he informs us that mom is gone and her boyfriend won't care. No problem, we have plenty of food. Next morning as my DD is feeding the kids cereal, guess who shows up. The boy has a huge plastic serving bowl and a soup spoon saying that he sure can eat a lot of cereal. DD says I don't mind if you eat but I am not filling that bowl with cereal. The poor kid ate 3 bowls before he said he was full. We were at the campground for over a week and this little boy ate many meals with us. We only saw his mother once and the boyfriend twice, both times he had a beer in his hand. I feel sorry for this boy and am worried about him even now. Still feel like I should have called someone.
