Just got back from Down East a week ago. We try to get up there at least once a year. We were on a church trip to H.O.M.E. for the week in Orland. We got out on the weekend and evenings to experience the area and eat some lobster and crab. We camped at H.O.M.E., not exactly boondocking but no hookups. We do have hot showers and indoor toilets to use.

Rolled into home today just ahead of a big rain and wind storm. This is what we left in St. Andrews last night - the view from out the TC door.
St. Andrews is a tiny town and a lot of fun to walk through. Kingsbrae Gardens were in full bloom and the lushest we had ever seen them. Groundskeepers said the rain this summer has almost never stopped. We lucked out and got sun, light sea breeze and warmth in both Belfast and St. Andrews.
We crossed the border back into the states at Milltown, New Brunswick, just a tiny bit south of St. Stephen.
What is it with us coming back into the States? Every single time we have been in the TC we get "boarded". All they look into is the refrigerator and the bathroom. The border guards never look in any cabinets, cupboards, etc. etc. just mainly the refrig. We don't carry anything that is prohibited, no raw meats, fruits, etc. For a change, both borders asked if we had firearms. Usually it is just Canada who asks - we don't carry so never a problem. Do many of you get inspected coming back into the States? Do they go through all campers that might have a refrigerator?
Headed down Route 9, known as the Airline, towards Bangor and immediately got slammed with torrential rains and high winds. Not fun driving hilly country, watching for moose and trying not to get run over by logging trucks. Stopped at Webb's RV in Bangor and picked up a Max Air cover for the vent fan. Should have had it on our west trip but didn't.
Good away few days. Won't be TCing until the fall NY rally. Once it dries out a bit, we'll work on the awning mold. Yuck!

We were up in Eastport, Maine last October, and a local TC'er guided us to the Reversing Falls which are a bit South of Eastport. It was an interesting and lovely spot, a county park. Being inveterate boondockers we slidout the slideout, and spent the night to be on site on the flood tide in the morning. At flood the tide poured in over the rocks and rivulets, Bald Eagles and Seals appeared from the coves to feast on the bait fish coming in on the tide. Marley, who is a full member, leaped into the water to catch a wave, body surfing. Linda screamed," Get her, Skip, she'll be swept away"! "She's OK", said I,"After all her Lab heritage will bouy her up." Sure enough she ducked into a cove and crawled up onto the rocky shore. Shortly the local TC'er came by, Linda recounted the event, he said,"You were lucky, we never let our dogs swim when the seals are about, they'll attack and kill the dogs at will!" See Ya at North Hudson, cain't wait!

Re "getting boarded" coming into the US...it happened to us at Lubec coming
from Campobello. The officer just stepped in, looked around (the frig was
bungy-corded) didn't want the frig opened, checked the bathroom and walked
out - total l0 seconds. Coming home from Houlton to Woodstock, nothing,
just have a nice day and we were away. One never knows what to expect.
St. Andrews is a beautiful little town and the campground has a wonderful
view....do you think it would make a nice fall TC Rally location?? I think
it would be great. Whale watching...normally nice weather in September and
some Canadian Hospitality. Just a thought.

Entering the States at International Falls a couple of years ago we got inspected, detected, boarded and X-rayed. They found 2 apples which we had taken into and outa Canada. No problem.
Interestingly they made us stay in the truck when they boarded. They were in there for about 10 minutes. don't know what they looked at.

We just crossed the border last week just north of the islands of Lake Champlain in VT. The customs official asked us to open the back of our pop-up TC. He looked around from the outside for a moment when I asked him if I needed to open it up or put the ladder out. His response was that he was checking to see if anyone was inside and if there was, they were certainly too small to cause any problems...and chuckled. Would need to have been in one of the tiny cabinets or between the mattress and the roof with the top down. Could be this as your fridge is most likely bigger than mine or I heard they were also big on checking for meat and the fridge would be the sensible place to keep it cold.

Doesn't bother us at all to get inspected as there is nothing to be found. It's just odd that it happens every time. The longest time that the US Border guards spent looking into the TC was coming back in from Campobello Island. They looked in every drawer, cupboard, refrig, etc. etc. including the doors that go out into the wheel well on the former Lance. We sort of chuckled as we drove away as they never even opened the bath door. Could have been a person in there! Campobello is a beautiful place but quite rural. About the only thing to smuggle back is lobster.

...interesting and timely thread.
Our US Border inspector really liked the Outfitter. He's going to recommend it to one of his in laws who were in the market for a TC.
We had quite the convo about truck camping last time through...
These people carry a horrible burden, and we try and make it as pleasant an experience as possible for both of us on our way across international lines...
BTW: we've lost eggs, bananas, meat, $45 worth of salmon steaks, and myriad other prohibited food items crossing...we're learning all the time about what not to bring over and back
